When being an O/o its like any other business that exists regarding a profit margin. Margins for expense budgets vs. Gross matters. Most brag and are pretentious towards exhibiting and presenting their gross earns but never overall net after all expenses. Nature of the business I guess after being in it for almost 30 years. Similar to a driver I once knew who only bragged about having $400k cash on hand after his divorce renting a room. At work another co-worker found him dead from a drug overdose with only $500 left for his rent. Maybe, by him being "high" that $500 looked like $400k?...

I liked the part where at first it wasn't going to cost anything. At first. Right. Usually these snake oil salesmen have overseas IPs but this guy is based in the US.

I don't think it's a bad idea to have a dispatcher. As long as you're able to find a good and honest one.

Nobody is going to hustle as hard for your business as you. The profitable relationships you foster for your business start with YOU. Driving, if you enjoy it, is just the icing on the cake. Saying you just want to drive while somebody else controls your profit, the most important part, is lazy and dumb.

Maybe you could get Greta to dispatch for you...it would give her something to do in between screaming at people.

They won't control anything, I'll still be in control.
Do you know how difficult is to drive AND looking for loads at the same time?
And the driving is the most dangerous part of the job.

Yeah I know. Paying attention to your driving is what you do. It's the easiest part of the job, the gravy, dont get in a hurry and you'll be fine. And you've got a cell phone right? Take a call and have a conversation. If you know the area you always run in it shouldn't be difficult. If you run wild all over with no clue about what goes on in the areas you deliver to, yeah that's crazy. You've ceded the most important part of your business to someone else, yeah they control the rates you're going to get. There's just no way around that. If you're not talking to the customer you're clueless if they need you or not. A dispatcher leaves money on the table when you're working spot.
