    I'm dealing with a not start after the truck gets up to operating temp and is shut off- it immediately will not start,only cranks, SPN164 is active and an IPR valve was installed with no difference. This is a Maxxforce 9, once the truck sits for awhile it will fire right up and has absolutely no driveability issues

    164 is for ICP. Several different sub-codes. I bet you have 164-17 for unable to build during cranking. Your fuel injection system is actually actuated by high pressure engine oil. You have high pressure oil leak somewhere in that system. The leak is minor, but not allowing oil pressure to build up when hot because the oil is thin. When cold, the oil is thick and the leak is small enough to allow pressure to build up to actuate the injectors. The IPR valve is just one part. Could be a pump, high pressure manifold under the rocker cover, (orings), or an injector too.

    Thank you, this engine is new to me and i have started to diagnos it just as i would a 365, didnt realize at first that the fuel system was basically the same, thanks for your input!
