Siba; I would call both May and Sherman Bros. and cancel orientation plans. Better to do that not nothing at all. Don't leave any company hanging, bad ethics.
May I make a suggestion. It appears from your other Post(s) that you are in San Fran area. Look into KLLM for they have a Western region and a yard in Fontana. They are in Salinas CA all the time with runs going every direction imaginable. What might help you is that when you do go home for R and R, you can drop trailer at that customer in Salinas and bobtail home. I can guarantee you 100% that you will go back to that customer when timeoff is done. (For this I know cause I worked for KLLM for over 4 yrs).
I would stay away from "Glass Hauls" since you are just getting into the industry. And I would start back at the beginning with a whole new clean slate.
If I can help ya, be more than glad to. -
And yessir, I'm the Cajun (Deniese) and yep,Louisiana. ( Joe is not allowed to touch my computer. He knows not what he does.) -
Ledbetter how was the pay at KLLM and who do you work for now?
-
Go to KLLM website for pay info. I still talk with a Driver there and listen to their info line. They are saying that a new pay raise maybe forth coming as soon as April, 2007 but won't discuss it until then. Their pay is based on HHG guidelines so expect 7 to 10% less pay miles than actual miles driven. That is the norm with HHG miles no matter which company uses it.
I do know they have an excellent Training program (I went through it) and I made a comfortable living with them. I was there for over 4 yrs but left because of bad communication and slowing down their trucks.
I'm hoping to be with a local company come Jan 2. They haven't made a formal offer but they sure talk to me like I have accepted employment but I haven't. -
So I guess May Trucking Co. does not give you enough miles a week from what I read about May Trucking Co. And they only want to give you 1600-2600 miles a week and they want you to take 24 to 30 hours down time after dropping off a load and before picking up your next load? Even with all that said May is still the highest paying for students! So I guess I will still have to go with them. May Trucking is willing to pay students .32 a mile after training and during training 500 a week. And most other companies only want to pay 250 to 300 training. So that being said I'm in a pinch for money I might have to stick it out with May Trucking Co. And force them to give me the miles I need. I have a mouth on me and I'm pretty good at getting people to listen. So if they want a hard time I'll give them a hard time. And they can't hurt me by keeping me out on the road for days because I don't care about being away from home for weeks. I'll show them ahahahha

Siba, did you look at Gordon Trucking at all? There supposed to be pretty good.

I know I'm like ages to late but I will post this for anyone currently looking into Sherman Brothers. Do not go to them. I'm not sure what the deal with May is I've seen their trucks but not so much lately as is the same for all other companies right now but if you want a job that WILL run you so you have a paycheck do not go to Sherman Brothers. They playing very dirty games especially since the original owners son took over. He is running the company into the ground and they are not financially stable.

That sucks. I'm not making excuses for them, but a lot of companies are having a hard time right now. A lot of drivers at many companies are sitting 2-4 days in between loads sometimes. Hope you all find a good place to land.
