I recall a W/S driver posting the other day he was told to watch his idling time. So they are obviously keeping an eye on it.
Sounds like May will work with you in different situations if you communicate the need. -
Axe said "i received a QC message asking me to try and reduce my idle time"
and like i posted after that Axe is a driver that runs his truck 24/7/365 whether he is in his truck or not. And thats ALL W/S will do if you idle that much is ASK you to reduce it. They will never tell you to shut it off, or NOT to idle, and they sure as heck aint going to charge you. They dont even care where/when/ how much you fuel or the route you choose to take.
If W/S truely cared they'd put APU's on all the trucks since a HEAVY load is 15,000 lbs so weight is NOT an issue for W/S like may. In fact may has contracts with certian shippers (beer i beleive) that they have to been able to put X amount of weight on the trailer, which is also a big part of why may will not put a 750lb APU on their trucks.

I am not taking sides here. I can see both sides of the coin. It is up to the individual to decide if he can accept that policy or not.

Why is it such a big deal to u, if you're not employed by may or never have been obviously thata a flaw but may treats its drivers good the ones who want to run.
-
i dont care one way or the other, i just think its stupid that new drivers think that just because their new they should be treated like crap, and get paid like crap.
sure you can sweet your nut off for .30cpm out for weeks at a time, or be in a nice truck with a APU getting paid .40+ cpm or be able to idle if no APU. You could fuel when and where you need to and take the best route to save time OR you can follow a computerized fuel solution and company routeing which often times isnt even a legal truck route. You could do YOUR job or you can have a company hold your hand all day and explain step by step how to do YOUR job all day every day, to each their own, i just make it a point to make sure as many newbies as i can know that there are good companies out here even for new drivers that treat you like humans.

AT, please do tell. Where can a new entry level driver with no experience get a job making .40 cpm?
Feel free to use the May forum to plug these "other companies" you are talking about.Last edited: Mar 21, 2012

These 3 pay per mile + per hour:
UPS Freight
FedEX Freight
Conway Freight
Any flatbed company worth anything starts at .40cpm
Tankers usually start at or around .40cpm
my employer starts at .40cpm goes to .50cpm + 10% of the load
Tons of great places to work, just need to go get them. When my dad fills in for the driver that pulls the #35 NASCAR truck team carhauler he gets paid $275/day and he's not even employed by that team he just fills in

Those companies hire guys with no experience, serious?

If they do there is a waiting list to get on I am sure. UPS , you are going to probably start on the docks. I don't think Conway is all unicorns and rainbows like a lot of people think they are.
