Watkins Shepard is LTL on the east coast. You deliver top multiple places unlike most companies where you have a couple stops.

Conway does hire students through the apprentice program.

UPS- Was told you have start on the docks at many of their locations.

Fed Ex Freight- one year recent experience per their website

As far as Flatbed and tanker companies go, many offer student programs.

    SNI- Student program for tanker
    Maverick- Student program for flatbed
    BTC- Students program for flatbed
    Boyd- student program for flatbed

    Their are more out there.

    AT,

    Central Refrigerated use to charge.

    Rockabilly,

I believe May does not hire south of I-4, JBS does not hire S. of I-20, and you will have check Knights hiring area for their Squire program.

W/S is watkins Shepard, if you can handle going solo without a trainer straight out of orientation and handle doing LTL (less then truck load "multi stop" loads, up to 25 stops per run) then in my opinion it would be better then may, BUT W/S does not hire from FL. Out of May, Knight, JBS i would say JBS would be my first choice and may would be 2nd, and i would drive a trash truck (straight truck) before i would even consider Knight.

I served 5 years in the USAF Auxillary, and i did apply to may as well as about 40 other companies as backups if i didnt get hired by W/S. And if you look back in the tread you'll see i NEVER said i hate may or that may is a bad company, its just another BFI, with 1 rule i find stupid. I would go to may before allot of other BFI's, but at the same time i feel there are lots of better options.

W/S, as well as most Newbie companies have tuition reinbursement

W/S does LTL in all 48 states and Canada. And ya i forgot about Central i remember reading that somewhere on here.

The other thing that has to be factored into the equation is where you live. If you don't live in a particular hiring area for any of these companies listed, it's a moot point.

Not every situation works for every individual all the time. I could go up to ND tomorrow and get a job making $30 an hr. After I weighed all the options, it just didn't equate for me personally.

I'm content at May for now. I make good money (for me) I have no major beefs. If and when I do and I can't reconcile them, I can move on. That's the nice thing about this industry I like. Lots of choices and mobility once you pay your dues.

What I sort of resent about AT is a certain smugness and air of superiority. Almost like he thinks someone like me who actually likes working for May Trucking is just to stupid to know that I shouldn't be.

    Kapeesh?

    TMC

    Roehl

    CRST

    Schneider National

All also hire new student/drivers, as I've heard from all of them.

Scooter... my cousin in OR just finished up his first three weeks with May and seems to like them fine. Likes his trainer. He wants to team with me but I'm not ready to start till mid April and I'm in NY. So, I'm keeping options open and seeing what's available in this area as well.

Just an FYI to all interested parties, according to their website May offers tuition reimbursement.

Maybe that will help make up for the idling policy for some.
