Yeah Yeah Yeah.....been there heard that from all you big time DRIVERS. If you have such a great safety record why would you pull off in a rig that was not safe to drive. Why would you risk delivering potato chips in bad weather. I may have only been driving a year and a half, but Im not stupid. Let me clue you in to something. My dog is fourteen and has been run over four times by cars.......guess what he still chases them. My point is just because you have done something for a long time doesnt mean you are good at it. So 20 years as a driver doesnt impress me. Especially if you suck at it.
Your first mistake was at May you dont call Safety you call Breakdown. As a matter of fact as I read your post Im not sure you even worked for MAY. You sure dont know how the procedures work at May.
I would also like to clear up this idle time one more time. We are not a zero idle company. We are however only given a small percentage each month. 10 for most months 20 and up to 30 during the summer. Now for the fun part. If you are in Arizona and it is 115 or in Florida and it is 95/95(temp and humidity) you can send a message to your dispatcher and they will credit you, if you dont abuse. Powder forgot to mention that they pay you if you are under your percentage.

Yes you can get a idle override, but it is only for 8 hours. guess what the temp is in PHX at night let alone during the day in the summer or for that matter any where in the southwest.
My trainee friend who worked their a year would loose around a hundred bucks a month in idle penalties even with idle overrides. The amount of dwell times at May will give you 2 choices. Stay cool and pay the company or roast and make a few bucks.
Another thing that has been left out by the May cheerleaders is that your Idle time is not just happening when you are idling when you trying to stay cool. You are being charged Idle time even during your legit operation of the truck. The lowest idle time I could achieve even in the winter with a heater was around 3%. Another thing the cheerleaders leave out is that if May owes you for not idling they pay $1.50 if you over idle they take $2.50.
Now if Idling was such a cost issue for the company, then why not put APU's in the trucks? Because the company is cheap. Charging drivers for idle times must be a money maker or they would be slapping those gov subsidised Apu's in the truck right? Just ask vendors that deal with this company and go to their facilities. Heck they tried to put a freaking R195 trailer tire on my steer axle once because they where to cheap to buy a steer tire because they had a used one 220 miles north in Brooks. They cut training pay 2 pennies a mile and don't even pay you during Orientation like most OTR company's do. You will be lucky to get a truck wash payed by them once a month. I had to shut a load down once and get the term mng to approve a truck wash because they want the drivers to wash their trucks or pay for it out of their own pocket.
I can go on and on for ya Hankbut I'm just a disgruntled x lying employee right? LOL
I bet if you went to the owners house he probably has someone melting down little bars of leftover soap instead of spending the money for new ones. -
I was charge for idle because the person in Layton,UT some times did not foward the hrs and also I had a bad experience making me look for good trailers in Fontana,CA, the ones in the yard most of them were fallen apart, and doing local runs and I was told I was going to run a lot "48 states" at the time there were not paying anything for orentation, I ask of you guys to make sure before you go in. Do not believe them all they tell you!
lowrider Thanks this. -
Or had the lights shaved of the side of them like most of the refer trailer have if they are dropped in Fontana. -
Hi there everyone, I'm wondering if anyone could help me out on some info about the phx yard and orentation procedure thx

anyone that works for a company that requires you upon threat of your job to chain up... Is learning professional driving in the complete wrong way.. If at any point I hear a chain law is in effect I will find me a place to park.. Chains are dangerous to deal with... I have had buckles break and slung chains (yes I installed them properly).. I have seen more people hurt not knowing how to put chains on then waiting out the night... Plus last time I checked they were a Greatwide company.. and well I am leased to Greatwide Dedicated.. and they rape us...
and charging you to idle that is certainly bush league... like me asking you out to dinner and giving you the bill...
I heard a very wise old driver tell a shop foreman one time upon being told someone stole tires off a trailer he picked up at IBP in Amarillo, and the he would be charged for them. ( it had lugs on it not trailer tires and RTI didnt run lugs on trailers..) The driver said " thats ok Jim Bob but if you steal from me I can #### sure steal a whole lot more from you if you insist on starting it" They gave him his money back. Drivers have to grow a set or they will get run over.... -
Does anyone know if they have been able to get drivers out with mentors quickly, or are recently hired drivers waiting for mentors? Any info is always appreciated.

I dunno, I remember my time at May begging my DM for miles. they run the hell outta the ppl gettin .30 but if you earn much more than that your miles go way down...the straw for me is when they turned my truck down to 62....now im at a small company which I will retire from.... long nose pete, 550 cat thatll run 75 not great miles but good miles and treated like a human....and they wont hire anyone with less than 3 years exp...after 6 months there im STILL the F.N.G

Small company? I hope you dont get bought out by MAY TRUCKING. Thats the scarey part, small companys cant compete, then get bought out by bigger companys. -
What division of May would be the best for me ? I live in Ogden Ut. and cant decide on dry van or refer.
