I have my CDL with hazmat/tanker and doubles/triples. I have about 8 months local/construction driving but no OTR expernice. I also live out of Wyoming so I know May Trucking and Stevens Transport will hire me but I am not sure how I should fill out my application. Any advise would be great!! Thanks.

You'd be happier at Stevens. MUCH nicer equipment. Don't be surprised if they make you go through their entire training program though. They are very safety orientated, and they want to teach you to drive a truck their way. Also, Stevens trained drivers almost always have a one up on other applicants when applying to other companies because of their safety and training. I don't know much about May except that, every time I see one of their trucks, it is banged up and wore out looking.

    Good luck.

I havent worked for either but I am NOT IMPRESSED with Stevens and havent seen any of their drivers focused on safety. Matter of fact it was a Stevens driver that was the cause of a wreck in Cheyenne,Wyoming last year that a driver died in. So what if they drive new trucks, I would rather drive a year old truck as its been broke in and I didnt have to spend all that time at shops working out the bugs. You dont make money with a new truck sitting in a shop.

Find me a training company where a driver hasn't caused a fatality accident. Unfortunately, that's the name of the game. Where did you get that they drive new trucks? The new Stevens drivers are in 2009's and 2010's...Certainly broke in, and nowhere near new. My point was that the equipment at Stevens has always been in better shape than the equipment at May.

One thing about May though is that the pay .30cpm compared to Stevens .26cpm.

Bottom line: Different strokes for different folks.

May's fleet is mostly under 3 years old, with a few older 387's. They just got over 500 brand new refer trailers and over 150 brand new dry vans last year. They do have some ratty dry vans and some older refers, but the equipment is pretty nice overall.

    flightwatch Thanks this.

Did May give you a reason? Sounds abrupt.
