..as far as I know yes, that's what was told to me at the workforce ofc here in Eugene, if you're going to an accredited CDL school u need a pre-hire letter.. it's just a formallity for the grant, it's not binding or conditional u actually get hired by the company u get the pre-hire from when u graduate & get ur CDL..

..also it's only once a month they submit the paperwork for these grants & for this month the cutoff is the 10th thru the 13th of Aug. They (Oregon Worforce) don't know how long these grants will be available; next month they may not be processing any or they may have them availabe, they said these grants could be cutoff at anytime..

 

Is a trucking company going to train you? If so, I am not sure the grant will pay them. I thought it needed to be an approved and accredited school?

Orientation for me is Monday 8/17 - Denver. All I know is that they best teach me how to up-shift and down shifts on grades. I could have used another 8 hours on the mountain roads to get that part down! I guess they also need to teach me how to handle a rig.

Things don't look as sweet now that crunch time is coming.

What happens in orientation, besides company rules, skills test and drug test?

Does anyone know if there is a wait for a trainer?

 

Maybe their Layton, UT hub is different, but I just received my Pre-hire earlier this week. Orientation should start mid-September.

 

..yes in Idaho the pre-hire offers would be totally different than here in Oregon to qualify for a govt. grant, plus u have to be a resident of the state where you're going to school, & it has to be an accredited PTDI school, at least those are the requirements here to qualify..

..these can change from week to week; May or any other company can notify the school admissions dir. & say yes we will do pre-hires now so you have more options, but like i said before, this is just a paperwork fomallity & isn't binding when u graduate..

 

I am looking at going through Elite (so I can avoid the meat grinder training programs).

After that, OO, with my own authority if I have to, I don't want to be under anyones thumb (any more than necessary).

 

Pre-hires dont mean jack. Until you are an official employee...nothing is for sure.

 

First OTR job and almost a year let us know after two or three if you still think the same $.31 cpm is a joke

 

Okay, first day is down. Seven showed up, one failed driving test. Pee test and forms, forms, and still more forms. Tomorrow will be qualcom, company proceedures and more forms. This is a paperless society? Update after class tomorrow. Drive safe.
