Drew; I am new, so cant tell you much but what has happened to me.
25% idle in the summer months, 15% in the transition months, and 10% in the winter. Idle is calculated over a two week time frame so you have time to manage it. It really is in the pre-plan, where are you going to stay, etc.

That said, called in for additional hours of idle time. It was approved. (Plenty of hours to last for the next couple of days.) Weather was 80 in Kansas during a 15% month. If you roll, make the deliveries on time, and have a good reputation for getting the job done, every time, on time, it seems to me that May will work with you.

Home time: 1 day for each 6. Same as most. My TM wants to see 3-4 weeks out, take home time. That said, I also know that he likes to see 6-8 weeks out even more. But he does not bully people into it. Home time is placed two weeks prior, only 10% of the fleet can be off at any time. So if you are in the 11% or higher, home time will be denied. At my terminal, I have not heard anyone complain about home time or returning from home time.

    Lowest miles: 2500
    Highest: 3050

My TM works with the drivers to make sure that they can achieve 13K in 5 weeks to qualify for the bonus.

Not bad at all considering the economy.

Not bad at all. How is he working with you to ensure the 13K monthly? That's hovering around 3K to 3K plus for some weeks based on the 4.2 week per month average. How is your equipment doing? Are you operating a 10 speed or 13? 3 to 4 weeks out sounds pretty fair. I'd think most OTR drivers are out most of the month if they are being honest. Thanks for the information.

So far, they appear to be one of the few companies (for company drivers, that is) that get drivers anywhere near or over 3k per week. I prefer 3500+, but I'm realistic. Wont return to the industry until I can actually earn some money at it.

    Mountain Spirit...
Sounds like you really enjoy May. Didn't you used to spend some time on a Central Refrigerated thread? Thank you for your detailed posts, I'll look forward to reading more.

In the end it is about the pay package. So what's the CPM (refrigerated is typical for big miles and big waits at both ends of the trip), how bad do they ding you for Benefits, and can u hack the limited home time. Sounds like you team - is that by choice?

    Thanks!

I also didn't fully understand the description of the turn. I was so poor we carried our clean and dirtys in a "poke" with nothing but a belt to secure our bulky items. Anyone else from down my way can relate. :biggrin_25520: Good descriptions about company conditions from the other posters...thank you.

    Poobah Thanks this.
