This is a thread I came across on this diesel engine:
MBE4000 Diesel Engine
The MBE4000 diesel engine is a state-of-the-art tool for today's drivers. It's stronger and lighter than any engine in its class in the market today. At 12.8L, the MBE4000 diesel engine offers the best power-to-weight ration of big bore engines in the industry. Advanced materials and components make the MBE4000 over 400 pounds lighter than some competing engines. Less engine weight means greater payload, so every trip in a truck powered by the MBE4000 is added revenue. Thanks to superior engineering, the MBE4000 diesel engine not only has great power, it achieves it with less fuel. The MBE4000 diesel engine is a drivers dream. Regardless of which of the seven power ratings you choose, the MBE4000 is characterized by reaching 90 percent of its peak torque at 1000 rpm. The less required maintenance on the engine, the more time your truck is on the road. That's why the MBE4000 diesel engine was designed for maximum reliability. Up to 25,000-mile oil changes with standard CG-4 oil. 100,000-mile fuel filter changes. And 800,000-miles before major engine work.

Man I've owned one and at 550k miles the engine block cracked. To change air compressor you've got to take motor mount out. No one says they want them. They are a throwaway motor at best and won't last much past 700k in my opinion. When it did run it was weak, but ran cool. I changed oil every 10k miles and fuel filters the same.

Drove a 2007 Columbia bought new with the MBE 4000 with 430 hp. We had nothing but EGR problems with it and even though we did 7000 highway miles a month , It wouldn't do any kind of regen . It spent more time at the garage than our 20.

Not even close. Before putting wrong info on here, prolly should do some homework.
A MBE4000 has 6 individual heads, doesn't use a common rail fuel Injection like 60 series, doesn't have over head cam, MBE4000 had I believe 2 platforms, vs. 60 series that had a ddec1 clear up to a ddec5
A 60 series is far superior to a junk MBE4000 all the way around.dustinbrock, MJ1657, ramblingman and 1 other person Thank this. -
It was a bad engine. I don't think you can even get one any more in a truck. You don't want to buy a truck with that engine.

Was built in Brazil as a Bus Motor by Benz..
Was fitted for a few years after CAT stopped selling C12/13s for Trucks, & prior to the release of the DD13/15 Platform..snowman_w900 and MJ1657 Thank this.
