When you start with MBI? 95% of MBI trucks and trailers are wide singles... If you haven't done transfer trailers ever, they roll easy use caution...

... on a sidenote... if MBI doesn't work out (all I know about them is my brother in NY uses their services) MANY tanker companies will SAY they want 2 years' experience, but with a good, SOLID one-year, with no points, CSA issues, and a good work history, will consider you. It's how the wife got in. I've been doing it for years, and the $$ is quite good.
Best of luck, driver. Either way.

Garbage by the load is not for everyone. It gets to be dog eat dog trying to beat the other drivers to where you load out of. There might only be a few loads on the ground where you load out of and 10 trucks ahead of you and you sit half the day to get loaded. Then you get to the landfill and there are 40 trucks ahead of you waiting to be tipped off by the one or two tippers. You get a lot of flats driving over the garbage in the landfill which is unavoidable. Then there is DOT which loves trash haulers, they target them in PA,NY and NJ and regularly set up in front of the landfill A couple of days a week when the weather permits inspecting trucks. They especially like the beat up junk that comes out of NJ or NYC with the " Spanglish" speaking owner operators, they're easy targets, but you will get DOT inspected 2 to 3 times more than any other type of trucking.MBI has a lot of trucks ,but they don't pay well since most of their drivers are from Upstate NY where the pay scales are lower and they can pay lower rates to drivers. They came from the Midwest and bought up Santaro ,Riccelli,Carl Johnson,Sunshine, and I think Wecare (who is now GottaDo) and they kept those companies lower pay and many of their drivers .
As mentioned in the previous reply Goulet is a good outfit with nice equipment. They run Walking floors and dump trailers. They do run Elogs and you will live in the truck all week because they are usually loaded both ways ,unlike MBI which mostly runs loaded one way, although some of their drivers back haul salt, scrap metal or fluff ( waste from scrap metal that goes to landfills ). Talking to Some Goulet drivers they make good money, but only get home on the weekend.
Being young and if you plan on making trucking your life's work I would do what ever possible to get a good hourly paying job like UPS,not UPS freight (tractor trailer over $30 an hour),a good tanker job like fuel hauling ,those jobs have a future with the possibility of making $80k a year and up with great benefits working like a professional ,being home with your family everyday and sleeping in your own bed.Garbage haulers race like rats to the garbage pile and back to the landfill. It's not a career I'd would recommend to a young guy trying to make a good future for himself and his family. Although it's very hard to get into UPS as a full time trailer driver, they hire a lot of temp drivers for Christmas rush ,then let them go at Christmas, but they do keep a couple on as permanent drivers.
Anyway best of luck to you.

@roadtech very well said... I worked out of the main yard in Burnham and traveled a lot to numerous other yards to either help the work load ( company wide they cannot keep drivers ) or deliver new trucks/trailers and bring a piece of junk back...

In some respects MBI is good but the biggest negative is the pay... With all the OP has stated about the wait time at landfills and transfer stations, MBI is getting over huge on the driver...Paid by the load in the tipper business is TRASH!!!

Every yard is different. It's easy work. There are several trash companies here. They all have turnover, with drivers cycling from company to company, with OTTO being one of the worst.

Gove it a try. It may work for you
