I work for MBM Denver (aurora)
Each terminal is totally different, it's like completely different companies. And ours is a mess.

    BUT
it's pays awesome. You'll earn every penny of it, but it pays awesome. and it pays for everything. you wait for breakdown, truck loaded, whatever, you get paid. I'm low on the totem pole and I don't work that hard (4.5 days) and I"m easily going to break 80,000 this year, maybe 90,000. Lot of guys working much harder than me making over 100,000 a year.

Lots of early mornings, lots of UGLY getting into parking lots. Every MBM truck I"ve seen from different centers is a 48 footer. Figure 1000 to 1500 pieces per trailer. Some you unload them all by hand, some you just bring the restaurants pallets. Every terminal is different, find out how yours unloads. Mine is all liftgates and electric pallet jacks.

If you've done food service, then you know the job, otherwise it's a bit of a shock. Lot of product to learn, where to park, where stuff goes, etc. You'll earn the money but it is bank. The first couple months SUCK. but then it gets easier.

Very drug strict. pee test plus hair test.

Unbelievably slow hiring process. Figure on at least a month. Really.

A stupid amount of paperwork. You write the same thing for each trip more a couple of times.

The trucks are governed at 62. sucks. But again, you're getting paid.

I like the job, but a lot of the BS is annoying. We don't do mom and pop stores, only big chains. Lot easier in that respect and usually (not always) bigger better parking lots.

    find out
which chains that center does. (each center does different chains)
how they unload (ramps, liftgates, conveyers, what?)
how you get paid. (we get paid pieces/miles/stops, some centers are just per day, some are hourly, some are pieces and stops, it depends)

The benefits got a lot better this last year as McLane benefits took over.

    Jayb247956 Thanks this.

It's piece/stop/miles not sure what the exact amount is. She said its lift gate and pallet. What do you pay for insurance. Thanks for everything huge help. I merchandised for coke so I'm used to heavy lifting.

I don't know if MBM Columbus does Olive Garden or Red Lobster up here in Cleveland, I would think they do because I see a lot of day cab MBM trucks at those places, but then again I'm off the chain restaurant seen. Sometimes I see them with lift gates and pallet jacks and other times the roller ramps at Red Lobster. Like the Red Lobster at Great Northern Mall the truck pulls up to the delivery door and opens a side door they set up the roller ramps and the stuff comes down like a conveyor belt. I see the MBM sleepers at Denny's. Yeah I know it's big money at MBM that is for sure.

well ask, cuz it matters and it's different at each center.
I will tell you that i make AT LEAST 25 to 26 bucks an hour on any low totem pole route. Sometimes better. You earn every penny, but still.

Same set up as ours. Find out which chains that center does. I don't do them all but our center does a lot. Only one center does more than ours. (which makes it harder to learn product).

Food is easier than coke/beer. coke and meats are the heaviest thing, but the whole trailer isn't full of them. But the whole trailer is full. That's how MBM makes money, fills the whole BIG trailer. 40,000lbs of product more or less, 1200 to 1500 pieces. Locals can really wear you out. I had never done anything like food and it was different, but now, eh, no big deal.

I think (can't remember) that I pay like $35 a paycheck (every two weeks) for the mid-tier one just for myself. I think that the top tier one is like $200 per paycheck for the whole family. Again, just a remembered guess. BTW, most guys in our center are in their 40's (me included). Can't be all that hard. The 401k's is McLanes and it's phenomanal. (something like a 200% match (really, they match $2 for each dollar you put in, depends on how profitable).

Expect to back up a lot and get into some not pretty places. But almost no stairs (like I said, all chains) and getting the pallet close to the door makes it go very fast. Of course being a chain has advantages, they all look alike, so once you learn where most of them go, you are usually right when you show up to a new place.

Expect to run as hard as you dare. They'll run you as hard as you go, until you push back esp on the extra board. It's better to survive than run like crazy. It doesn't help you get better routes as more senior guys get the first picks. It's a seniority system, so find out how the turnover is. (is it going to take 20 years to get to the top or less). Our center runs a lot of team routes. I hate team routes and asked not to do them. it's not been a big deal. I don't think most of the centers do a lot of team, but I don't really know.

ask how long to get a regular route. Even if it pays crappy at the beginning (which is still pretty good) having a regular route is a LOT easier. TONS.

Like all food service, the warehouse is freaking stupid. Expect to get very frustrated on particular days. Esp early on when everything slows you down.

Expect to work 6 days a week. Our center, not much leaves on sunday (but Monday is a zoo) and most holidays. Although you get paid holiday in addition to route pay so you can make serious bank those weeks.

    herring22 and Mike2633 Thank this.

oh, our center, slip seat trucks and trailers. And I mean it's not just day/night, but you might not see the same truck for weeks. It also means no one gives a crap about the equipment. And it's all leased (and I mean EVERYthing is leased) so again, no one cares. Our center especially, the equipment is crap, but I've talked to other drives at other centers and some are good some are crap. Depends on the local Ryder.

I don't work for MBM but I know the area VERY well. MBM is basically behind the Waffle House off I-270 & Roberts Road. I have a friend who owns a small company at the business park on the other side of the street. It's been quite awhile but I used to see drivers lined up waiting to get in. They operate on CB Channel 14. I know they are constantly trying to fill that yard jockey position ($15.85 @ hr) and still running ads on Craigslist...

(FYI....LOTS of other job openings at this terminal, too) I know one guy who graduated truck driving school and said he made $60,000+ his very first year there. Just like LoneCowboy says, you will work hard to earn every bit of that....but once you get into a rhythm and learn the ropes, it will get quite a bit easier. Get used to slip seating. Day cab roulette is all I see over there. MBM has been around since 1947 and distributes to Burger King, Denny's, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Hardee's, and many others.

well, i tried to find out what chains columbus delivers to, but no one knew or could find out at the terminal. I guess that tells you a lot about MBM right there. Even on the website.
    ugh

Like I said, frustrating job, but you make bank.
