Hey looking at getting a 24 foot box truck. Need some information on the required licenses and numbers required to get one. I know I need a DOT and a MC number. Not sure if I’ll need a CDL tho cause I don’t know if it’ll be under 26,000 pounds. Also Have a OWI on my record within the past year which is the main issue. Not sure if that will stop me from being able to get a MC and DOT number. If anyone can help on those that will be appreciated. Don’t want to pay the money to apply just to get denied.

They don't check your driving record when you apply for a dot number.

When you apply for insurance you'll have to tell the insurance company about your OWI. Normal startup rates for a new hauler are usually high. An OWI will send the rates even higher....if they'll even cover you.
