    me and a buddy are starting a dump truck business, do you need a MC number for this?
    Tri and Quad axle dump trucks...that's it

    In most states gravel and materals are considrred exempt commodities, but not all. Get a USDOT number so it shows the dot you have insurance and then follow the rules for drug testing etc. Everything keys off the DOT number, MC numbers are not important anymore.

    Depends on your state. Some states require nothing but a legal tag and insurance to run in state
    Others have a state authority or number so to speak or require a DOT number. There is no blanket answer to your question.
