And you're blaming McElroy for this? To a certain degree, I blame McElroy for hiring you without checking your skill or lack of skill before wasting everyone's time.
I guess McElroy was not interested in giving your the training that you should have gotten at "driving school".
I'm responding because you're blaming a trucking company for your CDL schools failings. If you really suck at driving why don't you go to a low paying mega that will train you by sending you out in a big truck among the general public.
McElroy Orientation not what I expected AT ALL

McElroy came to my school and recruited me.... I was a pretty solid student there... They told me they work with new grads... Grads from my school and then give me a lazy instructor who dnt want to do his job....White_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this.
-
Their interpretation of work with you might be different than what you had in mind. lol. I think the instructor saw your hopeless skills and pretty much had you tagged for failure from day one.
I say go to an outfit that will hold your hand. Don't feel so bad. You don't know how to drive and need training, that's just how it is. The average driver in my outfit has 20 years experience and we are still required to go to an all day classroom and review how to drive safely once a year. -
When I was in orientation there was a guy there that went to one of those swift sponsored schools. In NC actually, but not sure where. The orientation was 2 weeks long for new CDL grads with lots of driving and extra training. I went to a community college 4 week school with 3 student per class. And one dropped out in our class, so we got lots of driving time. We had one full week of backing where everyone had their own truck all day everyday for a week. Anyway, back to the swift school guy.
He thought he knew it all when we came in the first day. After the first day I could tell he knew absolutely nothing about HOS, logging, or trip planning. Everything that was common knowledge that you should know to get your CDL he had no clue. When we got in the truck this guy scared the crap out of everyone. There were guys refusing to ride with him it was so bad. Shifting was horrible. Just driving in general he scared me to death. He would get mad when instructors corrected him. And especially mad when me and girl that went to the same cdl school as me drove and the instructors "allowed" us to float gears. Because he was mad he was never taught that. And nobody told him
He could do that. He said he could be a better driver if he didn't have to double clutch.
Point is this guy went to a horrible school, and it showed up against guys and girls that went to a great school. There was 8 of us there, they actually didn't get rid of the guy. But they kept him around for more training when the rest of us left making money. Idk if he stayed or they fired him. But maybe check out some companies that will give your more training and take time with you.
Watkins Shepard in conover is where I went. I'm still there 10 months later work out of the myrtle Ms terminal and love it. I make great money.
Schneider does that also
You don't have to go to swift or cr England like everyone thinks you do. -
Thanks cruising along.. And that's a really good way to
Good advice cruising along.. And appreciate ur feedback... With time ill improve my backing... I think McElroy is a good but obviously not a good fit for me at this time... I have a few other offers.. So this is just the beginning for me -
That's actually where I plan on going next lol.... And yeah i went to school there in Conover.... I'm sure same one... I by no means think I know it all and guy u describe sounds like an #######.. I hear u all use automatics?
-
Well yeah most of them out of conover have autos. But last I heard they still have a 10 speed for training. But they also use a auto too. Only 10 speeds left in the fleet that I know of are out of Myrtle. They are the trucks from the action lane buyout and are Penske lease trucks. Only used out of ms because they have to go to Penske on weekends. So I have a 10 speed, which I like and will stay on till they drag me out. It has a apu and inverter. Only trucks in the fleet that have that too. Lol so can't give that up.
One thing about Watkins is nobody is gonna ride your tail all the time, but they expect you to do your job. But it's laid back. I enjoy it here. -
Oh yeah that guy showed us the school, it's pretty close to the Watkins terminal
If it's the same one lol. -
Its the same one I'm sure.. Lol... I just hate to hear another grad having problems... I mean u dnt know how good your school is until you get out there... We did zero trip planning at that school... And backing they give you all these marks and stuff so you never really learn to put the trailer where u want or learn how the tractor and trailer work together.... Well glad to hear you like it at Watkins.. I have heard money is good there... Safety bonus monthly right.. And how many miles a week would u say u avg?
-
Yes monthly safety bonus. I run LTL furniture stop loads so I don't worry with miles. I worry about stops. My normal weeks are about 2000-2400 miles with about 20-30 stops a week. Makes for a good 1400+ gross week. Some weeks of course are worse. But have to take the good with the bad. Holiday weeks usually hurt me cause most furniture stores or warehouses won't receive on holidays. So that sets us back. Then this week I got sick on my way back to Myrtle to get my second load for the week and had to go home. So stuff like that makes it a slower week. But the good definitely out weigh the bad.
