...McElroy is a TRUCKING COMPANY and NOT a CHURCH LOL! Nobody ever mentions faith or religion. At the Cuba Terminal there is a chapel located adjacent to the Drivers Lounge, but I never saw anyone go in there and it is certainly not talked about during orientation. At Pleasant Hill, they have a Bible sitting on a coffee table in the office reception area, but I've never seen anyone pick it up LOL!
I guess the only time you might get a sense of their beliefs is during Christmas, they send out actual "Merry Christmas" cards as opposed to "Happy Holidays". But as I said before, if you DO get stuck out away from home during a weekend, they will tell you that Mr. McElroy "prefers" that you shut down on Saturday and resume driving or working on Sunday, but to my knowledge, this is not an "enforced rule". I have had several occasions where I had to park late Friday night and get up early Saturday to get home and nobody said a word to me.
Best Wishes!

I guess it all depends upon where you live. After you have been with them for a year or so, I guess it becomes more and more rare for you to get a load to pick up at a place you have never been, but it does happen. And as far as consignees go, you get new ones all the time, so quite often you will end up delivering to someplace you have never been.
Rarely do I have to call a friend and ask "How you ever loaded at such and such place?" but I am probably on the phone 2 or 3 times a week with fellow drivers asking "Have you ever delivered to such and such place?"
But just like with anything else, the longer you are with them, the more you bcome familiar with their customer base and shipping lanes. I probably have a hundred or so places saved in my "favorites" on my GPS unit.

fnlou, thanks for the info. Would you have any info on where I might live about the routes. I live in Old Fort NC. I live about 4 miles from columbia carolina.
-
I have picked up at Columbia Forrest Products in Old Fort, NC several times, so if you live there, it's a safe bet you would go there occasionally. Also, McElroy is dedicated out of National Gypsum in Mt. Holly, NC so you would probably do a lot of those runs as well. There are quite a few GP plants in NC also. Being so far west in the State, however, I would bet that they would run you more south than north, but remember - you will end up having to go wherever they send you, and you really never know where that might be from day to day or week to week. Just when you think you have them all figured out, it changes. But in the end, you will get home every weekend anyway, so it's all good.

Lots of good runs near Charlotte?
-
Mt. Holly is fairly close to Charlotte. I have delivered to Charlotte a few times. Shingles mostly, but also to a couple of Lowe's Stores. But remember, they mostly keep me up north, so guys that live in NC or SC probably go to Charlotte quite a bit more.

Awesome, thanks! One thing that has me concerned is what to do with the truck. I'm in an apartment, there's a mall behind me and there's a Lowe's up the street next to a walmart. What are your options for parking that thing when you go home?
-
...You are gonna have to figure that one out man. If and when you "survive" the 1st orientation, the Driver Training, and the final week in Cuba, you will have to be certain as to where you are gonna keep your truck when you are home. If you plan on parking ANYWHERE besides your own home, McElroy will ask you for a "signed statement" from the "property owner" of where you will park that specifies that it is OK for you to park there and that you will not be towed. If you get to Cuba and don't have that statement or letter, it might be a problem.
The Lowe's Store might allow you, but you better go talk to the Manager. Otherwise, seek out the nearest Truck Stop to your Apartment and make sure they are cool with you leaving the truck there unattended every Saturday.
I am lucky in that the only Truck Stop in Va. Beach is 10 minutes from my house and when I started, there was 2 trainers already parking there so I just gave them the address and they were cool with it.
