I’m not gonna sugar coat anything so here it goes. .
You Will Hate Mclane being at the bottom of the pole. They will harass you to come in. They will also sometimes call you 1 hr before the dispatched time for the load. The pay is not so great being 1year driver(you get top pay at 3yrs & over). If you have any family plans, you can go ahead and erase them out of your agenda. Being that you’re 40years of age, I’m pretty sure you can lump heavy bibs, Arizona’s, waters, heavy oil, antifreeze, etc.. down that ramp. I can tell you it’s a young mans game. We’ve all been through the On-Call stage and we HATED it!! But you have to start somewhere to get on easy grounds. There are drivers that have been with my division for 20 to 30 plus years that’s got it made already. There are also drivers your age that just started with us that loves the work. Some are retired military vets that like to be with the company just to get a good workout. Some drivers get hired and talk about how they are made for this job, but right when they open up that 53footer swing/roll up door, all they see is a TETRIS war in there that you have to 110% unload with your hand truck. Don’t forget the two side doors close to the nose, it’s filled with frozen products on one side and cooler products on the other.

The only way it will get easier for you is when you start climbing up that seniority ladder and then you will be able to actually pick your loads. So better hope a handful of drivers starts quitting, get fired, or retire.

It will get easier! Just hang in there and learn your groove. The good pay will come with time with the company and climbing up that seniority ladder. Don’t let the beginning being with Mclane discourage you.

Thanks for the info MclaneGric253. Sorry for the late response I’ve been out of town the last 2 weekends and haven’t had time to post. I did actually go to the interview at Mclane and met with the 2 managers and did a rode test and than a written test. The people were outstanding there from management all the way to the warehouse workers everyone was really nice. So I passed everything and than they said they would be in contact with me so they called me after the weekend on Monday and offered me the position. I thought about it over the weekend with my wife and all and decided to decline. I just was kinda leary of team driving, the hours starting at night, days off are up in the air, and the unloading part didn’t look to fun at my age lol. Like you said if I was younger and started this earlier I think it would be a great fit but at my age now probably not. It does seem like a great company though if I was just a little younger. I appreciate all your info tho as it did help and what to expect going into the interview. ( RussianRabbit) I’ve got to write to you to on another thread just been really busy my apologies. I have a buddy that works there as well (Mclane) and he is currently making 1500 a week right now but they haven’t hit full season. Last Summer he sent me some pay stubs and the checks were 1800 to 2200 a week, I couldn’t believe it. I was working with this guy in LTL before so I know they make money there. I don’t have his pay stubs now because my phone that they were on fell in some water and I lost all my info. Ok folks talk to ya soon thanks a lot, Bryan.

Just so you know, I did a 41k loan of 8,500(4% interest) due to my wedding for November 2016. It shows under “After Tax Deduction.” So I’m losing an extra 171 every paycheck, but not for too long. I chose the two year term to finish paying it off. So I’ll be done with my payments this November of 2018. I would have gotten the extra 171 if it wasn’t for my 41k loan.
Anyways, It was an “Alright” two weeks for me. This is my paycheck I just received today (02/09/2018). I’ll post my next paycheck when I get it in two weeks (02/23/2018)

One more thing: The breakdown on this paycheck. 1st week I got paid 1438. 2nd week I got 1892. Then plus my break time pay. So yeah, my first week killed my pay. My 2nd week was alright, but I do manage to break 2plus each week.
