I've sat at a shipper for 14hrs and didn't starve my first year. Then again, what do you consider starving?. Plenty of Swinging Ds on here would have you think that anything less than $85K with fully paid benefits is starvation or modern day slavery.

If you want easier than construction, it doesn't get any easier than no touch dry or reefer freight. I've been to some places where I picked up and delivered without ever leaving the cab. Look for a drop/hook dedicated account if waiting is an issue for you, I know that was often times the worst for me.

So you are saying the OP wasn't telling the truth?
Why should I assume the OP did not say what was meant?

Or do you always exaggerate and lie about everything you say as a matter of course, and treat everyone like they do the same?

I apologize. I thought it was over-the-top absurd enough that no one would take it literally...mistakenly putting down hernia surgery instead of wisdom teeth surgery. I’ll use more emojis since we don’t have verbal or visual cues in the written word.

    Fair enough?

I’d consider $85k as being very well off, at least in my neck of the woods. :) My choices in Florida as a new driver are limited, so it’s either OTR at 25 to 36 CPM with a reefer or dry van company, or OTR flatbed at 46 CPM. Sticking with it a year, I will have made it to 51 CPM. Plus, I’m going from a job where I don’t stop moving for 8 hours straight to one that is very sedentary, so at least flatbed givens you more physical activity, although that alone isn’t enough to stay healthy.

Not much physical activity with flatbed; a little when you secure a load then a little when you deliver a load.

I'm no expert on flatbedding but we starting into a recession. And from what Im hearing its going to be bad.

As the market slows down and some folks hurt for money, I am working through all my scheduled hometime. Theres no slow down on the refridgerated side as far as I know. If anything its the opposite right now.

I do run teams, thats going to make my checks larger. But I can say I already have about $2000 worth of work scheduled for me this weekend amd into next week. Thats not including my hometime pay Ill be getting, plus a day or two of layover.

You MIGHT not get 85k through the recession doing flatbed as a new driver. From what I understand flatbedders get hit pretty hard when market melts.

That's true, flatbed may get slow, but in my experience over the last few crises, the kitchen remodeling business basically dies. If I made $2500 per month, all the bills would be covered, including food on the road and $50/week to just blow. Anything over that would go toward savings. So, I'm counting myself as lucky to have made this move when I did.
