It sounds like you are living below your means, which is good.
Just keep that thought in your mind. 0.51 per mile is all well and good, but it doesnt mean much if you are not getting the miles.
I might clear 100k this year earning 0.41 per mile. Thats because my company can keep me moving, also they offer good accessorial pay. I am also working through a lot of hometime right now. I'm doing that because the country needs my help, and it will also enable me to take advantage of some good opportunities that exist right now in the stock market.
Personally if I had to choose between a milage pay increase and more miles, I would probably just say keep the raise and give me better runs. A great run can mean 1000 dollar difference on a weekly check. A 10 cent pay increase on a normal work week? 200-300 maybe.
Just mentioning that because I dont wanna see ya at a truck stop somewhere parked for a week cleaning truck windows for tips. Not saying that will happen, but you know..i know some flatbedders said they are going to stick it out in flatbed. But they have also been doing it a while and probably have good money saved up.
Anyways, not busting your chops or anything, just throwing that out there. Flatting is great normally, and thise flatbedders are a close-knit group almost like a fraternity.

My younger brothers are all seeing suspensions of their perks.. Like 401k match, merit increases, and bonuses. Gone.
Meanwhile, I am seeing larger checks.refrudgerated trucking has been good to me in good times, and now in bad times too.
The feds have started releasing economic data today. I think the big report is on Friday. After that we will know more. We do have a pretty good idea that it isnt going to be pretty.
My guess is it will be worse than 2008, but also shorter. Meaning faster recovery. But its just a guess.
Hopefully my first prediction is wrong.G13Tomcat and MericanMade Thank this. -
Moved off the waterfront during the run up to the real estate bubble. Paid cash for our current house on a 3/4 acre lot with the profit. No truck payment now. No credit card debt, except for 0% $5000 for trucking school tuition. Being lean has been a blessing during messed up times.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
@Chinatown ... due to the 'econ' situation, DML is hiring on a case'by'case basis all OVER the lower 48, but prefer W of Miss. .... training mostly in Ohio, for now. Buying a few more tractors, arriving shortly. No training; prefer those w/3 months experience, but obviously waving that atm. Wish I had more for you; talked to the owner's daughter myself this a.m., as Pep'Farms is right next door. (They wanted ME on the spot, haha! Probably would've beat or matched my pay....but I'm a home daily/weekend guy, atm!) << I'll send y'all the boxes, peeps~!
