Week 2 of my 3 week course at MCT is about to come to an end. After that I will be placed with a trainer for my first 10,000 miles.

I've already got some other qualms but don't want to get into them here and yet.

My big question is that I was told by the recruiter I'd be making at least $350 a week to start with my trainer and that after that I'd go up to full pay, but now I'm hearing that "Oh by the way, you make 8 cents per mile with your trainer."

This is extremely not cool when I'm 2 weeks out of work, committed and into this and have budgeted for what they said would not be a problem and how much I would be getting...

Does anyone know how much MCT pays while you're with your trainer?

Is it 8 cpm on your combined miles with trainer? I mean will you be running the 10,000 required miles as a team?

I'm not sure? I know we aren't taking turns driving, at least we were told we'd be sleeping at the same time.

Hmmm...8 cpm is pretty lame then. When I was a trainer at anther company they paid the students $450 a week

Midwest Coast Transport. Yeah, even $350 a week is fairly low, but for them to say that then hit us with what'll be under $250 a week? That's not cool...

Good luck. I just did a simple search on the company. Not very good reviews.

Not only that but it appears from what I read you will become a lease operator after you finish their training? Am I reading that right?

If that's the case, I would get another job locked in and then bail on MCT. Worry about the debt to MCT later. There are many companies that will hire new CDL drivers starting in the .30 cpm range and up. Do you have endorsements?

You don't have to lease, most of their people are small fleet owners.

And yes, when we complete our training we come out with a HazMat endorsement.

I got my OTR start with MCT back in '89. Training was free except for room and board. It was a five-week course and we had to run with a trainer afterwards for 50k miles before being eligible to go solo or become a first-seat. Funny, we were paid .08cpm back then! At least for the first 25k miles, then we got bumped up to .095cpm for the next 25k miles. After that it was .11cpm. These were for all miles driven by the truck and it was run as a real team, no stopping and sleeping. I still know some drivers who have been there a LONG time. You don't have to become an O/O.
