I have heard from three different coworkers that on slick mountain roads their Mack trucks with 12 speed MDrive transmissions shut down as soon as they spin after hitting a slick spot going up a grade. They said that if they had been in a manual transmission it would have been no problem to drive on through these slick spots. All three are mountain drivers and are at least 60 years old and have been driving for years.

Never heard of a transmission shutting down. Doesn't make any sense

When the computer detects wheel spin the engine goes to idle. You have to put chains on to continue.

ABS brakes are for people who can't drive and suck for those who can. This feature has been on cars for years. Daughter had a 4 cylinder and when it died wouldn't recover on a hill. Had to have it turned off. Probable trucks don't have this. Not a truck driver but have a 84 Pete 359 hobby truck that will never see snow or ice. What will they think of next?

You can install or choose to spec a switch to disable the traction control feature, it had nothing to do with the Mdrive transmission.

The trucks have traction control but I thought the switch was to turn it on and not turn it off. We have been running the Mack's since 2004 that I have been with the company and with the manual transmission this has not been a problem. Some of the trucks placed into service in 2015 have the mdrive and we are told 100% for 2016 will have the mdrive.

That's not the transmission then, it's the stupid traction control program

The situation does not occur in the 2015 trucks with a 10 speed manual transmission, only in the 12 speed mdrive. Apparently somewhere someone decided to set-up these trucks differently.

Reinforces my belief that some of this safety crap causes the very problem they're trying to avoid
