Means they cannot drive with a Mdrive.
Mostlikely it is their many years experience with manuals combined with a deep rooted hate for their Mdrive which is now biting them in the arse.

The traction control is on by default. The switch is to turn it off.

Well, before you bash him for his suggestion, I too drive a 2015 Mack equipped with the 12 spd M-Drive, I have not had this problem at all, I run Colorado, I'm in the Rockies on snow covered roads constantly. Been running snow/ice every day for the last two weeks. Two weeks ago I ran US 50 Cerro Summit and Blue Mesa Summit, but had chain law in place, I ran them barefoot, occasional blips from ATC but the trans never kicked out, light steady pressure on the throttle. Same thing earlier in the day US 550 from Farmington, NM to Durango, Co just into Colorado is a 7% 2 mile grade, it was very slick, chains should have been required, I climbed it almost sideways with my ATC light solidly lit, power divder engaged, and wheels spinning, truck never went to idle.

IMHO, it's either operator error or something needs to be checked out on the trucks.

Or the software is set up differently on theirs from yours... there are many options the company can have set, that limit driver control, or enhance driver control.

Maybe for shift points and manual control but the traction control should work the same regardless.

I've driven on solid ice in Texas where the TEXDOT crews were nowhere to be seen and I didn't have these issues. The MACK is just a rebadged Volvo I shift. Unless there are significant differences between the traction control systems, I don't think they'd behave so differently unless something is not kosher.

The trucks that we are driving have a single drive axle.

One of the drivers has said a message has pop-ed up on the screen that there is a

"....clutch protection..." mode that the truck goes into. Does anyone know anything about this?

That means the clutch is overheating. It will reduce clutch pressure until it cools down. I've only had that happen when sliding tandems in some of our older trailers when I first got on the truck because i was giving it a bit too much throttle. Once you get a feel about how to modulate, it gets easier to do.

    Never had it happen otherwise.
