Should be in manual mode with traction control turned off.

Traction control tries to make waay too many changes,on icy, snowy roads...try turning it off..works great!

In addition to what Packrat said, if you try and hold it on a hill with the throttle, it will do this as well, in some cases it may go into limp mode until the clutch cools down.

That might have something to do then with the problems you're having, with a single drive vs. twin screw, if they spin you're SOL as there is nothing else to provide traction to keep you moving.

Striker,a single screw doesn't mean no driving in the snow........look on youtube at the Norwegians..They all drive single screws 6x2 .

Yeah but they're usually heavy. Most single drive axle trucks here are pulling pup trailers that are lightly loaded.

Got to remember a computer is shifting..wheel spins, rpm goes up,transmission shifts.
Manual keeps you in the gear you want to be in.

Also, look at the difference in the way things are done in Norway, they spec and setup trucks for the conditions, especially in the winter, around here, a single drive will carry one set of chains and hope the driver knows what to do in the winter, I've seen the chain law go up for single drives solely because it's slushy and they have crappy drive tires. None of the LTL's even remotely setup trucks for winter conditions properly.

I've encountered several different trucks that go to idle upon wheelspin, some with 10-spd manuals (Int'l Prostar mega fleet spec), and some with Allisons (KW W900/ISX15, thankfully has a switch to turn TC off). It's got to be a setting flipped somewhere in software.

I drove a tandem water truck with traction control...not a good thing. ###### near got stuck on level ground after dumping the excess one day. Mech's wouldn't turn it off.
