Ya well, your looking at it the wrong way.

pickup trucks can haul 10k - 15k, Yet a semi can haul 20x more.

so you need a semi to handle your power because a pickup truck ain’t gonna do it.

    your welcome.

The state will probably pay the tuition for you. The schools will have the information for that.
At least get the 160 hr. course. This way, you'll have more options of companies to choose from.

    AramatAz and GYPSY65 Thank this.

Gracias por la información. I'm going to take a good look at these schools. I appreciate your time invested.

Not a heavy load but a load that you do not have to handle physically. Your size or stature will not matter as long as you can see over the steering wheel and are capable of driving. As was mentioned earlier. Flatbed or food service may not be for you but doing general Freight in a dry van or reefer might work for you. Good luck!

    AramatAz and Chinatown Thank this.

I agree. Even for a company driver, it is important to have an idea of the mechanics of a truck. Why?

If you work for a company that has a barrier between you and the desk jockeys, bet on the breakdown people
    1. believing that all drivers are stupid.
    2. not knowing a thing about autos and truck.

    What does this mean?

Answer: there’s a good chance that the service truck will show up blind and unprepared. Service tech rolls up, does his diagnosis and then has to go get parts. When you are out in the middle of nowhere, that’s a buttload of time wasted. As a company driver, that hurts your pockets. Time is more important than money.

Communication with staff will get you more miles than mechanical knowledge in my experience. Manners and a good attitude will help!
