I recently renewed my cdl and my hazmat. I also recently quit my trucking job. My medical card expires in a couple weeks, but I don't plan on driving any time soon (career change). Do I have to go get a new med card just to keep my cdl? I want to keep my license since I just paid for it with tanker, hazmat endorsements just in case I want to drive later on down the road. In Oklahoma.

    Google self certify for OK

Some states require a valid med card if you have a A pic. Some do not. But you will show a restriction of K

Either keep your medical up to date, or self certify as exempt from the requirement (and then DO NOT drive anything requiring a medical card). If you simply allow your medical cert to expire, the state will downgrade your license.

Your license, in use or not, is a investment you have already made. I would definitely stay current.

Called school.... if your license is downgraded some states will reinstate if you self-certify with a certain amount of time.

This self-certify has been in place since 2012.... Even if you have a valid CDL and Med Card you still need to self-certify with your state... Your long form is invalid 2 weeks after you receive it. All med forms have to be on file with your state.

In Wisconsin, I kept my CDL active, no Haz, and chose tier 4, will not cross state lines driving a truck ( which is fine by me) and a Fed Med card is not required. Not sure about HazMat though.

In Arkansas we are allowed to certify under oath that we were Tier two without a med card so that we can keep the CDL for grandfathered purposes and for a specific reason involving national emergency under attack and dead bodies to be hauled among other very limited problems as explained to us by the revenuer (Yes we use that word, same thing as DMV here due to taxes etc paid same.)

I had self-certified as exempt for a few years here in OK. Got a new license with a K restriction. A few years later, I got a medical, got a stamped at DPS & got an unrestricted license, like it never happened.
