Ok I've searched this and found nothing but negative advice on every thread, so I thought I'd share my story. Before anyone gets the wrong idea here I'm not a drug kinda person. I might have smoked it 3-4 times in high school, that's it. I've suffered from chronic back pain and sciatica for years and have a list the length of my arm the things I've done and medications I've had without relief. Medical marijuana works for me, it's given me more relief than the 20+ pills/day I was taking. I don't smoke it, I cook with it and eat it. Once a day, an hour or so before bed. Onto the story...
Just finished up the application process with Day & Ross on Friday and it stated in the application that drug and alcohol testing was mandatory. I filled out out the application and told the guy in the office that I had a prescription for medical marijuana so I'd obviously test positive. He wasn't sure what to say. I figured I'd never hear from them again.
An hour later he called back. He'd spoken with the head office and once my doctor assures them it won't affect my daily tasks the job is mine. They were very pleased and almost surprised I came forward and thanked me several times. I just wanted to post this so other people with a marijuana prescription would know it might not affect their chances of employment. If a large carrier like Day and Ross is ok with it and the broker I'll be driving for I think other carriers will do the same. Now I know I can't go into the US (was never the plan) and I don't know much about the way the US carriers would handle the same situation, but the point of this thread was to let people know, ITS POSSIBLE!

Wrong, too bad it's up to the DOT and not day ross, they are the scummiest company in canada and i wouldn't be surprised if someone else's clean urine was used, lol.
One accident and your career is over.Another Canadian driver, misterG and JRTBud877 Thank this. -

“Once you find out your driver is using marijuana…you’re going to have to make a decision,” Truck News Reported Butler as saying. “Can you let this person work for you? Can you relocate them in the company? You need to decide because they certainly can’t keep driving trucks, that’s for sure.”
plot twist, day and ross is gonna put you to work in the warehouseAnother Canadian driver, themikep87 and misterG Thank this. -
That's funny d&r said you could drive for them IMPAIRED, what a bunch of bottom feeding losers
maybe that's why none of them can stay between the lines, they're all highAnother Canadian driver, BigHossVolvo and Garththomas Thank this. -
It's not wrong. It's not illegal to drive and have a prescription. It's illegal to drive while impaired. They may be a lousy company but I'm not busy this time of year and was offered some work, and it's the companies decision to hire me or not, DOT has nothing to do with it. As for using someone else's urine, come on man are you just bored?
I'm not sure if you actually read that article but it's talking about US. I'm not sure if you actually read my post either because I said I'm not going to US, nor do I know the rules about it.
So your posts were kinda... Useless.Last edited: Mar 13, 2017

Considering thc can stay in your system up to 90 days and there's no way to test if someone is impaired, ill just say; good luck, let us know when you're in the drivers seat, i find it hard to believe anyone would insure someone who fails a drug test

Personally and this is only my opinion. If someone was involved in an accident with me or anyone in my family and tested positive for marijuana, medicinal or recreational. The gloves would be off in the courtroom. I would go for the jugular. You, the company that hired you. Your grandchildren everyone possible. But that's just my opinion. How a court of law would handle it. I don't know.

As a possible employer someday I would not consider hiring you for any driving position. I understand you are very likely a responsible person and are using your medical marijuana the way it was designed to be used. That being said, even if I could convince my insurance to accept you, the risk still lies in if you ever have an accident. A lawyer would easily convince a jury I am liable for not drug testing this driver or even knowingly hired him while he is using big bad marijuana. My company would be over and so would likely everything I own and you too probably would become property of the defendant. I don't fault you for seeking the help you need for your illness. I am just saying it is not a risk I would ever consider taking. A large carrier like day and ross can sustain a multi million dollar judgement. I cannot. I suggest you try other large carriers that offer Canada only work and see what they say. TransX, bison, challenger, to name a few.
Another Canadian driver and SprinterMan Thank this.
