From my understanding the Gov says as long as you arent taking insulin you can pass your medical. I am diabetic and its under control with pills.

Question is, how does Stevens (and the others) test for diabetes? Do they want a note from my Dr or do they actually do a test or what?

I do know we have drivers with diabetes. I don't know the ins and outs of the way Stevens handles it. Best for you to call your recruiter. They will know the answer to that one, as it is not all that uncommon.

Call your doctor. Do NOT call your recruiter until you learn the laws from your doctor. If you want to NOT get a job ask the recruiter first...

It's not necessarily the law Im asking about, it is how Stevens handles it. Note from my Dr, they test, etc...

I read with Schneider they prick your finger at orientation and if it comes back to much sugar they send you home for 2 weeks.

You may have missed my point. If you can go in "educated" and know how to answer their questions, or know what questions theyll be asking before you go in. Your chances of scoring a job go way up.

Either way, good luck and let us know how it goes

Stevens tests the sugar in your urine... if it is high, then put you on medical hold, and you discuss with their doctor what you need to do. Actually, if you can, call the clinic at Stevens, they will be able to give you some general information.

i went to driver sulutions in dallas 3 weeks ago and faild because of high glucose in my urin i checked my blood suger that mornning and was 160 well under the limit of 200.they sent me home i whent to my docter and she changed my meds now im fine and in that time i did some research and found it was a blessing in deguise not goen back to c1 or pam trucking. the people i meet there tell my it sucks that they rush you through like cattel and make you test before you are ready set u up to fail. the place seemd shoty to me any way and the dot doc made me sound like i was on my death bed he was wrong my doc says im fine and gave me a letter stateing im ok and my diabetes is under controll.my advice is go to your doc first make sure your ok also you can buy test strips at cvs and check your self look for bayer brand clinistix reagent strips for urin drink lots of water and green tea stay away from soda and watch you carbs hope this helps i leeve next week for stevens will keep you posted

Stevens wants a fasting blood sugar of 130 or less. If you are Diabetic they will only give you a 3 month med card (this was my experience) and make you come back to the yard to re-test every 90 days. It worked ok for me while I was there. I had trainers who did everything they could to avoid the yard. They said you would always get stuck for a week. That was not my experience, I could usually clear in a day and be back out on the road.
