Can someone with a history of cancer in their past obtain a CDL? Are there waivers or anything that can be obtained if there is proof from a doc that the cancer has been treated and is gone? Thanks in advance.

Yes you can. Depending on how long ago, you may not even want to mention it as the physical deals with current health problems. This is the question it will ask: Any illness or injury in the last 5 years? If it has been less then 5 years have your doctor write a letter explaining the scope and what if any drugs you are currently taking for this situation.

Cancer itself is not a disqualifying medical condition. Damage to a specific part of your body as a result of cancer could be, such as an example if you had lung cancer and it now causes respiratory dysfunction that interferes with your ability to safely control a CMV.

You will need to mark YES on your medical form and being so recent. Get ready to prove you have been released for work and not on any medications.

Please talk to the examiner and your PCP first to make sure that the regs won't give you grief. Make sure your documentation is all there and ready to give to the examiner.
