But then you have the trolls who come on here, and say they are doing well at one of the fore mentioned bottom feeders. They will say they are making 100K per year, because they run hard, and have a good attitude.

Always good for a laugh.

Quite a few of these companies have some decent dedicated accounts, tho. JB Hunt in particular has shifted their business model away from irregular-route OTR in recent years to intermodal, DCS (dedicated), and final mile deliveries. I know a couple guys at JB running intermodal and PPG Dedicated making good $$$$ and home pretty regularly. There's even a local CR England driver I've talked to a few times who runs a local daycab for em' and he's doing $55k and home everynight.

I do agree with the OP that for the most part, these companies are to be avoided in terms of OTR. But there are some dedicated positions with large, established customers that can be good for the driver.

That's funny... Several guys where I am at came from JB"s intermodal because of how horrible the pay way...

Maybe you meant they are Running from JB Hunts Intermodal program?

True. I went with Knight thinking it will bev different for me. Boy was I wrong.

And J.B. Hunt completely snowed me...and I fell for it because I wanted those nice cheap benefits. Boy was I an idiot.

And yes, there ARE bad small outfits as well...I've dealt with my share.
The difference is, the small ones don"t know they're bad...and the big ones do but don't care.

 

Some of us don't have a choice. I worked as a cook making 10.75 an hr. Not too bad right ? Well they are only giving us 25-30 hours a week. That's less than 500 clear every two weeks. Can you live on that ? I have been, but it's always robbing peter to pay paul. It's always a choice on getting food or do I buy those socks I need. Well I've had it. Gonna try a bottom feeder, Yes I know what I'm getting into. It's a 10 month contract. I can do that standing on my head and take a lot of ####e doing it. I have a plan and I'm gonna work it. After 10 months I hope to move to TN. and get on with Big G. That's the place I hope to retire from.
