first, what the heck are you talking about? I did have a website that had info on it regarding Melton, but I deleted, because I'm nolonger with Melton. You're probably gettin spam because the site nolonger exists!
I've been unable to remove it from my profile because I cannot edit my profile...which I've contacted this board about, but haven't gotten a reply?

I have posted info on here about Melton, so be sure to read all of the posts, from me and everyone else. And to the "staffer" who thinks I'm spamming, calm down with your threats. I am not spamming anyone and only come on this board from time to time to check on the Melton thread.
So go hack that out, and remove that url from my profile if you can manage it...lastly, stop interferring with people trying to get info on trucking comps....staffer or not, you need to do more research before you start jumping to conclusions. There's no need to slander someone on a msg board, a PM or email would have been more professional of you....if I were spamming. good day.

hey what's up Onion!? Yeh, I don't work for melton anymore, but I have posted some info on the thread regarding them...so be sure to check that out. sorry ya got spam on the website link, I deleted it so I'm sure you got all kinds of spam totally unrelated to Melton....anyhow, I do not own the link anymore. This board has some good info on Melton, posted mostly by former or current employees...so do your homework! Don't worry about the "staffer" they simply failed to look into the matter, I've been trying to get that link removed forever, however I can't seem to edit my profile...maybe someone with lots of time on their hands will get it "hacked" out! =) If you have any questions concerning Melton, simply ask, PM me post it.

cnjrollin, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
    1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
    2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
Please help! So staffers don't think I'm spamming - I could remove the link if I could edit my profile. I think they said the link was removed, but I'm still unable to edit my profile. thanks a bunch!

Well, I have been here for about three months now and it is not all peaches and cream but it's not all bad either. For the person who said Melton is 50% tarped loads, I say keep dreaming. Out of 21 loads I have pulled so far, I have had a whopping three that were "no tarp" and only one that was smoke tarp only.

I do not care for the lumber tarps but it's all we got and when you are at Johns Manville in Joliet, they come in handy because of the height of the loads. I have a feeling I am going to be let go soon though, because I have two court dates a week apart and they are telling me since I don't have the time earned, I am going to have to take my truck to Birmingham and "terminate" my employment, but that I can come back within 30 days. Well, I got a load home Friday that delivered yesterday near home.....I am home now until Thursday afternoon and I go back out. My first court date is Thurs morning. My DM said we would work something out for next week but I would more than likely be routed to birmingham and bused home....so to prepare I am removing any large items I have on the truck this week, like my ladder and my tools. I will say I have never turned a load down, complained about a load or had a service failure and I only had to run illegal one time and it was because I was in Atlanta and my DM told me Melton does not permit drivers to spend the night inside the 285 loop. So I called safety, told them what was up, they said to note on my log that I needed to find a safe haven and roll with it....I went 20 miles outside to Jackson Ga for the night.

I'm sorry, I cannot sympathize with anyone who has "pet trouble" in this business. Melton makes it clear in Orientation that they will NOT pay to send your pet home...so you knew. Personally I think it is cruel to keep a pet in a truck in the first place, but to each their own......if you wanna roll like Cletus and Fred, that's your business, but don't complain when the company doesn't cater to your dog.

Melton has it's issues, but we all know not every week is going to be a 3000 miler and we all know it's not the Melton's job to be the ASPCA or PETA.

Only 3 months with them? It's really hard to guage any company on only 3 months -- take it from others who have been there (or who were there) for much longer, it is 50% tarps at Melton (as stated on their website) if you get more tarps I guess you're just lucky, but I'm pretty sure it averages out, because even though it's a tarp, doesn't mean it's a long haul. They have 800 mile average haul stated on their site, but after numerous short hauls, an inquiry to the DM returned a "that's a yearly average" so go ahead and tarp those short loads - I guess the extra $40 comes in handy when you're running low miles. Thankfully for Melton drivers, this is July - in the fall months that freight will drop like a sack of potatoes, but you can still make that $40 tarping.

As far as the pet thing, I'm not sure what orientation you attended, as they have different locations...and they do not state that they will not get you and "your pet home" but then again they don't state that they will fire you without notice leaving you stranded without a logical way home, hold your pay, and not advance you any of your upcoming pay to get home either. Ask the 4-5 drivers that were terminated in one day, all routed to the same terminal, just to meet the same fate.

The first 3 months - which happened to fall in the summer months at Melton was great...but as you gain more experience with them, you will see that it just gets worse and worse. Everyone knows drivers are a dime a dozen, Melton lowered their required experience from 6 to 3 months ( I believe) so they can haul their freight cheaper, I guess that's just business though. There are some drivers at Melton doing well, but chances are, if you're banking on those tarp pays, you're not one of them.

The truth is, there are much better companies than melton, and the good companies arent the ones with goofy advertisements in trucking magazines. Does it makes sense that melton would spend all that money on catchy advertisements, when they can't even seem to deliver on their over 55k per year driver salary boast? Do you honestly think that lake, super-gym, and picnic area (at Melton corporate in Tulsa, OK) is really for you driver? Think again. If DM's need to be kept behind electronic lock and key then there's obviously something wrong. I work a company now that flat out puts Melton to shame. (hands down) always do your homework, even if it means skipping those fancy trucking job magazines...you'd be surprised what you'd find. Unless you've got something unique to bring to Melton or any of these type companies, your limiting your own potential as a professional driver by even showing up for their orientation. Get their flatbed training (if you don't have any) and get out -- or continue to be just a number.

Almost forgot, tell that field rat that Melton keeps in the bathroom at their Sunnyvale, TX terminal I said hello - I always hated seeing that thing when I would go in to shower!! (yuck) lol Sorry, I was on Melton's side a while back, but once the grass is cut, the snakes will show. It's ok if you do not sympathize with anyone with "pet troubles" it's obvious you don' have a pet in the truck. But I do sympathize with drivers just like you, who settle for less, day in and day out, it's a sad part of "the business" which sucks so many unknowing truckers in, who want nothing more than good pay, good treatment, and a change from the norm. Unfortunately, only time can reveal the truth behind these so called "good companies" - good luck to you.

I'm not settling for anything personally.....I came from CRST, so digging ditches would have been an upgrade from them. I have not seen any flashy ads in any trucking magazines for Melton...I see one small one here and there, but that's it. Now, I was at the KW Dealer and he had some three year old mags lying around and I saw alot of Melton Full Page ads, but those were all from 2005-2006. I guess I am just not in it to get Rich or find glory, I just need the experience to get a local job. I got 5 months left to get my year OTR and come Winter, I am gone either way.

I went to Tulsa and it was clearly explained when we were going over the Rider/Pet Pass with Dave D.

Actually, we were told that they can fire you without notice and that they will advance you money for a bus ticket that you have to repay and hold your check until the truck is inspected and deduct a fee for cleaning and or recovery if need be. Mind you, this is all on the FIRST DAY of orientation.

In 3 months, I have gotten two CPM raises. I am almost at .40

Again, I read those things all the time, I have never seen a recent catchy ad from Melton...as a matter of fact, within the last two months, I have seen none. I actually found out about the Company from a driver at a Truckstop.

Quote "We have these facilities but chances are you won't be using them too much because you will not regularly be at a terminal but when you are here, they are for you drivers as well as office personnel." The fact that they even have the facilities is good compared to what I came from and I really have no aspirations of becoming Charles Atlas....:biggrin_25525:

Well, at CRST they were in an open office and it was flooded with Drivers who were in there trying to talk to their DM. When you called or QC'ed you had to wait til they dealt with the line of drivers standing in front of them. I have no issue with my DM and the CSR being in an environment where they can work and not be distracted by Joe Blow driver....I have NEVER had a problem getting in to see my DM or the Local dispatch at the terminals. I sat for an hour with my DM and observed her in Tulsa....

Melton is NOT perfect by any means and I barely call them GOOD.....but find me a company that is and we'll all apply. No, I do not have a pet in the truck because I am a neat freak and cannot deal with animal hair or animal waste or animals barking....(as I am sitting here listening to my mom's Pomerenian bark incessantly at nothing...LOL) Don't get me wrong, I love dogs! My favorite Breeds are Rotties, English Mastiff's and Yellow Labs....but unless I find one that cleans up after himself, is mute and can help me put a tarp on...I'll stick to picking up strippers for the night....hehe. (And yes, if trained right, a Stripper can help with a tarp....lol)

No offense meant to you cnj, I guess I am just too humble to sweat the little stuff and am just happy to learn a new facet of the trucking industry.

cnjrollin, I have read all of your posts and I think you are a good guy and you certainly have an awful lot of useful information. As far as I can tell, you are definately an asset to this board. Therefore I feel I should inform you that Wiseone is not just a staffer on this board, he IS the board owner. I don't want to see you banned, I think you are far to useful to your fellow truckers. So, I beg of you to take it easy on Wiseone and the rest of the staff, they're just trying to protect us from spam and ruthless advertisers.

I didn't mean to be hard on WiseOne - all is well I harbor no hate whatsoever...and I didn't mean to go off - it was just a misunderstanding. This board is great as it's a handy tool for anyone looking for some good and sometimes not so good info on potential trucking companies.
I don't want to get into it with anyone....or step on anyones toes. :biggrin_25525:
