Hi, I have a valid CDL, 8 months regional experience, a clean driving record, no criminal history, no drugs, etc.....I want to go OTR, home time is not an issue. Thinking about applying at Swift. Since I have experience, would I still need to go through orientation and go out with a mentor for 6 weeks? Thanks.

Orientation, yes for all drivers. You would do a road test to evaluate time required with a mentor but unlikely it would be the full 240 hours.

Not necessarily...driver would still have to do a road test at orientation. That tester would determine if driver is good to go or needed some time with a mentor.

It could be (assuming doing well on the road test) you would be going on a Mentor truck for a very limited time...enough to learn "the Swift way" using the QC and the little ins and outs of Swift and their policies.

Yep ... I went out for 100 hours. Knocked the hours out in 10 days. But I stayed with him for 16 days. Was waiting for a friend to get to the terminal that I was going to team with ... I kept drawing a small check. Besides it was a sweet deal, he was dedicated and I was home for 8 hours every night and 34 on Saturday.

Um, even when I rehired they made me do 50 hours "per policy" even though the road tester said I was good to go OTR. My thing is my previous experience with swift was mainly dedicated.

I just learned today that none of that dedicated stuff counted towards experience during my time at swift for them... Weird, but it's part of why I'm leaving the company. From my frustrating experience, I would say they probably wouldn't tell you what you need to do till the last day of orientation.

My personal opinion would be to keep looking as I think some other better companies may value your experience more, as is the same in my case.
