Like another guy said. Not all of the companies with schools are out to screw you. I am with Prime and when I complete a year there is no debt. There is also no deduction for school. If you do a year with them it is free. They put me up in their own hotel during my initial training and when I came in for testing. They have treated me in an absolutely awesome manner. You should consider them. You only pay, if you quit

Thanks everyone for the responses. i have learned that i can't get student loan for the college, because i already have a student loan, and i am already in college. looks like my best bet from here is to find the school of my choice.

when i say that money isn't an issue, i simply mean that, i have a set income already that will take care of home while i am away, so making 300/wk wouldnt bother me....now anything less, i'd feel like a slave. i'm just looking for the best experience so that when im a year in the game, i will be able to make rational decisions on which way to go next.

i only plan on staying with one of those companies for the first year and then finding something local...(here in houston a local driving job is going like hotcakes)

I'M not Adv but you should check Swift school there is no money out of packet and yes you will need to work for then for at least a year. But I' ll tell you I'm a mentor and they have a very good school, I take alot of students out and I see what a lot of the others schools put out and you have very few schools that can match it. Keep up with that attitude you will do great. And like I said I don't Adv for any of them.. Good luck.

I just talked to prime and i am satisfied with them. everything is free as long as i stay with the company for at least one year, that is what i am looking for. experience and no out of pocket costs. so i think after reviewing several companies, that prime will be my choice....

I think you're headed in the correct direction, and with the proper attitude to boot. Good luck, keep us updated.

From what I've read, Prime is a great company.

Read all the negative stuff on leasing from Prime or anyone else. If you wasnt to buy a truck, work for someone, drive all the miles you can and save up $20,000.00 then buy a new one. I'd reccommend you look at Watkins-Shepard and move near one of their terminals if they will train you.

I considered a community college and a CDL school and then chose a CDL school for 3 reasons. I needed a paycheck ASAP. The community college class had a wating list and classes would not start for months. Then class lasted a semester ( a few months of part-time class) and then I could get a job. A CDL school's next started in 10 days, lasted 3 weeks and the company I wanted to work far hired their graduates. CDL school made it easy to borrow money from 3rd party lender for tuition.

If you are open to learning, recognize a few weeks or a few months are too little to teach you all you need, the quality of instruction is similar enough for me. You're going to learn most from the first week you are on the road with a trainer after school.

My best advice is to first pick an employer you want to work for and then get training in the manner they accept. This keeps you from being licensed but unemployed. Find a job you want and then go to school.

Pay attention, I am not looking to LEASE anything. I am looking for 1 year of driving experience that is all. i do not have a family other than my partner and a dog, rent is only 500 a month, as long as i am making at least 300 a week, i am fine with any conditions. If i go off to one of these schools and they try to force a lease upon me, IT wont work!!! i have my own money and if i must, i will pay my own way back home...... i'm not going into this with a mindset that someone is going to try to screw me, i know me, and i know that is going to be almost impossible.

give me a little more details when you RECOMMEND a place to me( location, website...) i have the slightest idea of what or where Watkins-sheperd is..:biggrin_25525:
