I was in Portland OR on Thursday, from Jubitz truck stop drove west on Vancouver Way. There is a Freightliner dealer about a mile down the road. They have a big Mercedes sign on their shop and a word TRUCKS below. Something I've never seen before of simply didn't pay attention. After reading the Mercedes trucks post I googled that place this morning and when using street view that sign can be clearly seen. However I have no clue if that actually means they are going to sell Mercedes trucks here. The address is 9632 NE Vancouver Way Portland OR.

Euro trucks don't meet DOT lighting for one. The other is they are all 24 volt.
So when you start adding up the costs (and the fact that the drive cycle ends up breaking trucks a lot faster even though the ratings are the same) of the various changes you have to make to the trucks in general its just not economical to think about bringing over the european trucks.
And of course those reasons also apply the other direction.
However with the DD being designed as a global engine it makes sense to run a few euros out of Portland. PACCAR seems to do the same thing... DAF trucks have been sighted up in washington too by some of the Hankstruckpictures guys. -
I've also seen euro trucks at the Eaton plant in Michigan that's next to a target distribution center Kalamazoo I think.

I wonder if the now global truck makers, Dailmer, Paccar, Volvo, etc... seem to be headed in the direction of global chassis, similar to what car manufacturers are doing. It would make sense from an economics perspective. Of course that means many jobs in manufacturing get cut, which has already happened a lot here in Portland with Freightliner.
I always thought Europe has some cool looking rigs, but from a drivers perspective driving them is another story I guess.
