The flabed rates are cheaper then one company that USED to charge $180 per week.
Stepdeck is inline. Same company $220 per week.

At the end of the day, all we want is a reasonable situation where we don’t have to feel taken advantage of. Even if you can get by and make things work. Don’t get me wrong, I understand where Mercer is coming from. They are trying to get paid. But they can lube me up before they slip it in. Hopefully I would have a shot to make more than the average that Mercer sent me without a struggle. So where did you end up?

It makes relative sense when you put it that way. But it is still a hard pill to swallow. The Mercer trailer fee is the only thing holding me back atm from sending the application in. I’ve got to keep looking around. I’d love to consider buying a trailer, but the problem is, I have never run my own business before, and in my mind, buying BOTH a truck and trailer would be overly ambitious for right now. Perhaps down the line after I learn the ropes.

Trailers come with a rental fee. No getting around it.
Vans sometimes don't. But flats usually do.

Understood. But the van trailer fee PLUS the meh average van pm rate Mercer quoted on top was the part that made it more difficult to be comfortable with hooking on. Not to mention, I have to pay my own tolls at Mercer. I don’t want to put too much on my plate and learn how to flatbed along with learning the entire business side of owning a truck at the same time.

then you need to look at companies that pay on cpm. most percentage companies you will be on the hook for a trailer one way or another
