    1. Research suggests that metformin, a common medication for type 2 diabetes, may help reduce the risk of dementia and cognitive decline in individuals with diabetes.
    2. Metformin's Role in Cognitive Health
      1. Slowed Cognitive Decline: A study indicated that older adults with diabetes who used metformin experienced significantly slower global cognition and executive function decline compared to those who did not use the medication. This suggests a potential protective effect of metformin on cognitive health over time.
      2. Reduced Risk of Dementia: Epidemiological studies have shown that metformin is associated with a lower risk of developing dementia. A systematic review and meta-analysis found that metformin use was linked to a reduced prevalence of cognitive impairment and lower incident dementia rates among patients with diabetes.
      3. Impact of Discontinuation: Research has also highlighted that patients with type 2 diabetes who stop taking metformin face a significantly increased risk of developing dementia. One study found that those who discontinued metformin were 21% more likely to receive a dementia diagnosis compared to those who continued its use.
      4. Comprehensive Management: The relationship between diabetes and dementia is complex, and managing diabetes effectively, including the use of metformin, may mitigate the heightened risk of cognitive decline. Metformin's potential neuroprotective effects are being explored, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive diabetes management.
      5. Further Evidence: Additional studies support the notion that metformin may have beneficial effects on brain health, particularly in preventing dementia among individuals with diabetes. The findings suggest that maintaining metformin therapy could be advantageous for cognitive health in this population.
      Conclusion
Overall, the evidence points towards a potentially beneficial role of metformin in reducing the risk of dementia and cognitive decline in individuals with type 2 diabetes. However, further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms and long-term effects of metformin on brain health. It is essential for patients to discuss their treatment options with healthcare providers to optimize their diabetes management and cognitive health.

Those with type two diabetes are often hit with dementia to the point where it is now often called type three diabetes. So instead of medication for the rest of your life, stop eating sugar and carbohydrates and you will never even have to visit the doctor in your old age.

I used to take metformin but found that the side effects of kidney problems didn't justify taking it as a preventative so I stopped it...I'm still controlling my sugars and no longer pre diabetic so like with everything, everyone is different I suppose....

I switched from daily Metformin pills to Mounjaro which is a weekly injection done at home. Sugar level is perfect now.
    ~
Mounjaro is an injectable medication used to manage blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes, and it may also aid in weight loss when combined with diet and exercise.
    What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro, with the generic name tirzepatide, is a prescription medication that helps lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is administered as a once-weekly injection and is designed to be used alongside dietary changes and exercise for optimal effectiveness.
