Electric heat is the most efficient. 100% of the energy consumed is converted to heat. The only waste is the heat dissipated by the engine itself, and the generator windings.

If you were to have separate tanks for the apu you could put red in it or just do the same as refer drivers do with their refer engine. I know ready mix trucks get some of the fuel tax refunded to them by deducting a percentage of total fuel used because like a third of the fuel is used to turn the drum. It's a complicated tax move but there are guidelines for specifically written by the feds for it. APUs may not enjoy the same bias from the taxes though.

But for all intent and purpose reefer fuel is not taxed.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
I meant to say what truck stops carry off road diesel. I never actually seen it at least at a truck stop. -
If you want to simplify and legally separate the APU fuel, get a tank for the APU and run off road untaxed fuel in it. -
It's more efficient to transfer heat than to create it from energy conversion.
This is the reason heating with a high seer inverter technology heat pump is dramatically more efficient. They work down to Sub-Zero temps with 95%+ efficiency now.
Think of baseboard vs heat pump electric costsHaulin Gass Thanks this. -
