Would not surprise me if one of the carriers are not working on that now...

If you looked into it you will find that most of the MAJOR US CARRIERS such as SWIFT already own MEXICAN trucking companies SWIFT owns TRANS-MEX

Many do or have had ownership interests in MX but a lot of that was because of issues with Trailer Interchange agreements. Trailers would go into MX in one condition and come out with bad tires, no lights, etc. And they would stay in MX and be used for months before they got them back. So ownership was one way of controlling that. You mess with my trailers and the investment you need to grow stops. And it worked.

But now that issue has been addressed. Every trailer that goes into MX (US ownership) is issued a Visa just like a person. And if they trailer doesn't come back in 30-days then the MX carrier starts getting fines. And the trailer is inspected going in and the owner gets a form outlining the condition down to the brakes. And the MX carrier has to pay for repairs.

So evidently these companies are not rate cutters. They filled a niche and contribute to US economy growth in a safe manner.
It is not a zero sum game .
Say a load needs to go to Cuidad Juarez. Would you go there from Us?
There are agricultural jobs that pay seasonally or not, besides the point, up to 20 dollars an hour. Would you do them? Or would you like mowing all day long in TX in 100 + temperatures?
Tell me why unemployment is still above 7% when those jobs are out there?
My friend came from Europe , built casinos
there and told me about a dispute he d had with a Russian who claimed American infrastructure boomed only because of illegal mexican workers.
My buddy replied that illegal workers ARE the USA and always been .

    Things I have noticed-

    1. A lot of trucks plated in California with Mexican company names & addresses. There is one guy with a bunch of large cars pulling reefers, the trucks all say RU on them for the name. I looked up the MC# & it is registered to an individual/address in Tijuana.

    2. I have noticed some purely Mexican trucks running up here as well. There was a Mexican beer hauler parked in the funky little truckstop at the funky little town in Nor Cal where I live last weekend. An older IH cabover that looked to be in mediocre condition.

    3. I see some trucks & trailers with plates from both California & Mexico. These are always Mexican owned & driven.

I'm not sure this means anything. In California we already have so many Mexican (& Salvadoran & Punjabi & Sikh) truckers that I don't see how an influx of more Mexicans could drive the rates any lower.

    Comments from BBB appreciated

Yes diesel is expansive because they peg on the dllrs / peso I think 70% pays for the Mexican economy and if oil prices go down than we are scrwed as Mexicans and our crappy president be leaves in free market and now wants to sell off pemex to the highest bidder....... pinchy

Current diesel prices in MX are approx $3.55 - $3.60 a gallon. Pretty comparable.

Electrolux in El Paso is very particular when it comes to these inspections. I've had to bring trailers back to our yard because the inspector failed it due to a tire being too worn or some other minor issue. That's why we don't mind them taking our newer trailers down to Juarez. Now some of our other cross border customers like Hubbell don't inspect them when they take them into Mexico, they just send the Mexican drivers to our yard to pick the loaded and empty trailers needing loaded up,which is why we use older trailers on the Hubbell account.

Not sure I follow? US/Canada freight is an issue for US carriers coming back into the US.[/QUOTE]
If I may stick my nose in--I believe what 359 is trying to say is--b4 the northern border opened everything was crossed dock and both US&Canadien carriers got a good rate--once both sides started crossing the rates went to #$## quickly& from the MX carriers I have dealt w/ they all say basically: why would I want to go all the way to NY for a lesser rate than I get now--&come back for even less?
Thus the lesson I also feel many of the reputable older MX carriers took from watching the northern border open
    Just my $.02
