The drivers bringing chemical totes or ISO tanks to my facility from LA and TX are mainly Mexican Americans and are the most courteous and professional drivers we deal with. Come to think of it I haven't seen one without their shirt tucked in. Always call me sir and we always shake hands. Great service from these guys. I assume this was the way EVERYONE was in the old days.
Of course we only deal with Landstar so we get very few slobs and it's usually the dry van guys.kylefitzy, brian991219 and bzinger Thank this. -
To me, it's a matter of fairness. We can't/won't go down into Mexico but they can deliver and p/u anywhere in the U.S. They're taking loads from U.S. drivers pure and simple, and because of their lower pay, it gives companies a financial incentive to use them instead of you to move a load between say Detroit and Laredo. Our only hope is if Trump means what he says and puts a stop to it.

Mexican and Canadian carriers can only pick up loads that are going back to Canada or Mexico.

I saw a Palos Garza truck at the Weis Markets DC in Milton, PA a few months ago, so they are venturing pretty far north and east...bzinger Thanks this.

Canadian trucks I don't mind because I can go to Canada. Until Mexico is as safe as the U.S. or Canada, they need to drop their loads at the border.Eldiablo Thanks this.

Does that mean I don't have to work tommorow? My 1st stop I can't get on the door if a truck is already there.My 2nd stop I have to park in oncoming traffic and open the doors because it's such a pain to get in. If an automated truck can do it, I will text it the trailer number and leave the bills in the back.Eldiablo Thanks this.

You can go to Mexico but chose not to for safety reasons. That has nothing to do with labor prices. Your reasoning does not support your argument.

It kind of does. True there is no legal reason we can't go to Mexico but the safety angle is a trade barrier in a sense. US and Canada maintain the roads and hire police to patrol them. This drives up the cost of living and therefore drives up trucking rates. Mexican trucks come over and take advantage of the infrastructure and higher rates.Eldiablo Thanks this.
