Michigan carriers - Who are the good ones to work for?

I have a list of questions ready for every company I call. I've "interviewed" numerous companies in the past few days. I can report that having a detailed list ready with questions has surprisingly gone over very well with the recruiters/owners. I was worried it would annoy them with all the detailed questions. Quite the opposite is what I've found! I do it to keep track who I've already spoken with and to compare the lists to make an informative decision but it has had the unexpected result of impressing prospective employers with my organizational skills. Just an interesting point I thought I'd share.

 

I can't believe how many small carriers (20 trucks and less) there are in Grand Rapids. There seams to be a seat for every a5s out there for someone who will do some calling around. I found one today that sounds great! Real small mom & pop with ~4 trucks. Good pay, good miles, good lanes, good home time and decent equipment. I will be taking a driving test tomorrow with them and doing my best to find out what the catch is! Got to be something! Don't want to mention their name until after I get/decline the job
