What may be a factor in this is what happens when the truck craps out with a driver, what happens to the driver?

He fires them on the spot because it will be the driver's fault regardless

I don’t know about this guy, it is a common thing to happen by cheap pos fleet owners as you know.

I bought a 99 w900 last year not because I was looking for one or in need of one but because it was too good of a deal to pass up in my opinion. From my experience it's really difficult to find a good buy when you're trying to and the good ones seem to pop up when you aren't able to capitalize on them.

The truck I bought had a detailed maintenance history with receipts to show all major repairs done. CAT house inframe with less than 50k mi. Rebuilt 18spd and rearends with 20k miles. New AC system and a pile of minor repairs. The thing runs great and gets the job done but a day doesn't go by that I don't listen closely for a random noise or feel for a vibration. I'm constantly checking for lights that aren't functioning properly because it's inevitable that electrical issues will occur.
Older trucks aren't for employees to drive in my opinion and if you're going to put an employee in one you better have a good mechanic.

the whole exhaust/ egr system is different

and yes part of the reason I built mine was to be tattle box exempt, I actually wanted mechanical, but my current truck was too good of a deal to pass up

The OP was on here in the beginning asking questions about running Texas, and if it was feasible. Here he is half a year later with enough cash in his pocket to drop $60k on a truck. I think you've got him confused with somebody else. I don't see him going bankrupt anytime soon, as what he's doing is obviously working.

And the EGR, EGR cooler, DPF, pressure sensors and EGT sensors for DPF, regens, limp mode when it won't regen, scared to idle due to clogging DPF, and won't regen parked, and won't force regen when you need it to, and engines running hotter coolant to meet emissions standards which wreaks havoc on heads and head gaskets. Then when the DPF finally goes, you put a new one on, and 50,000 miles later the thing is clogged with coolant because the EGR cooler is leaking.

    I'm sure I missed plenty.

OP, I'd echo the advice above on waiting a few more months.

The 1st driving job I had, when I started at the company they had just traded in their oldest leases with the 14L 60 series for newer DD15's. All the senior drivers hated the 60 series with dpf with a passion. They also got the Cummins isx12 natural gas Lol and that was a flop too
