i was a driver for a co in mn.the co midwest specialized. you will be told that you will be paid for orientation but you will not.if you are hired in the machinery division you may end up hauling flat steel back and fourth from mn and il.you will sit most of your time waiting to load will be paid half tarp and even though the equipment is new your tools are not.the tarps are junk as well as all the boomers and straps.some idiot that is the x owner makes you strap then tarp.management changes are destroying this co.i was a co driver.this co has favorites for drivers and only the brown nose will survive.i know men that have 12 years in this place looking for work.the dispatchers are only out for themselves and will burn you every chance they can.they expect more then they offer.they will make themselves appear to be layed back but in fact they push you till you break.i have been a driver for 23 years and im ashamed to be a driver anymore and we the drivers go threw such a rigorous back ground check when its the companies that are the cons. midwest specialized is owned by Ats and that co fired all co drivers and only robs the lease purchasers.i spoke to a driver that leased on and in one year he lost his home and after one year filed bankruptcy.need i say more about these two companies.

Ok, I'm going to pick this whole thing apart.
First you say you have to strap down the tarps.
Is this when they are just laying on your trl. deck?
Well gee you need to secure them down, even if in the goose neck as per dot rules.
    Even loose boards etc.

Now junk binders and chains. If that bad turn them in for better or new pieces.
If O/O you buy new. part of your bussiness costs.

All companies have favorites. Nothing new there.

Ok which company fired all it's company drivers?
If you say ATS did I will say you are full of dog waste by product.
Seems they had company drivers last week 12/21/09..
This I know for a fact..

If Midwest I do not know, but believe they still have company drivers as well.

You say they rob the lease purchasers. Ok how is that?
Did this person you talk with tell you all the facts or just say they ripped me off and I lost everything.
There is no short story on that.

Did this driver work and try to stay busy?

2009 was a real slow year for machinery and flatbed work.

Did he go home every week or two and then bumm around for a week then go back to work with not setting aside enough money to cover his bussiness and personal cost when he shut down??

Please play Paul Harvey and tell us the rest of the story

You come to a public internet forum crying.... Then you tell someone who replied to you to keep their opinions to themselves.

I highly doubt that ATS fired all their company drivers. Perhaps I should call my sister-in-law who happens to work in the ATS St. Cloud office & ask her?

I was a owner operator there for a year and have no complaints. I always made very good money there. Dave, Dean and Paul never pushed me if I didn't want to be. If the orientation pay your talking about is the sign on bonus thats paid over time. I used part of mine at the start to have ramps put on my truck since I was hauling machinery. Of course my chains, binders and tarps were my own so I can't speak much about those. But I will say I bought used binders and chains when I signed on and there wasn't anything wrong with them. Yes ATS bought into MidSpec but any lease purchase is done thru ATS and then the driver leases to MidSpec. ATS nor Midspec fired their company drivers. I still talk to Kurt on a monthly basis cause of him wanting me back as a company driver. My best friend that lives a few miles from me is a owner operator for them going on 6 years. His wife is able to stay home with the kids and lives a good life. I will say this, things were kinda crappy when Chris was running things. But I hear its 100% better now that he is out of the picture. I just wish they hadn't got rid of Pete. As far as tarping with the straps underneath thats pretty common. I don't strap a load over my tarp if I can avoid it cause it can tear up the tarp. As far as the sitting , ya I sat a lot doing heavy haul but still made #### good money. If I had to deadhead more than 600 miles they paid .85 a mile for all deadhead. Tell me what other company will do that. And I didn't even have to ask for it. I'm not saying you didn't get a bad deal but I also feel your a little out there with your claims.
