I just got a mifi from verizon and it works good. I got the 3g one because the 3g has more coverage in the areas i go to. Being a rookie and low man on the totem pole I get sent to all the towns out in the boonies for loads. I still get a signal on the mifi but is weak so my question is this. Where is the best place in the truck to place the mifi to optimize the signal? I'm assuming that all the metal and other electronics in the truck may interfer with the signal.

Does it have a connector for an external antenna? If so, you might contact Wilson for a signal booster..

It doesn't work like that as far as I know, they're designed for being indoors. Also 3G is going to be slow in a lot of remote places regardless.

Check with Wilson anyways.. I think they make a wireless booster now. The booster would connect to an external antenna on your mirror. I ran one with my aircard and got a 2-3db signal increase. BTW every 3db is a double of power.

MiFi is a line of compact wireless routers produced by Novatel Wireless that act as mobile Wi-Fi hotspots. MiFi stands for 'My Wi-Fi'. The MiFi can be connected to a mobile phone (cellular) carrier and provide internet access for up to 5 devices. The MiFi works at a distance up to 10m or 30 ft and will provide internet or network access to any WiFi enabled peripheral device.

Also to add, most are encrypted. So the truck next to you cannot hop onto your MiFi.

    Thanks,

I've got mine (ATT) velcro'd to the front side of my cabinet above the passenger seat. Unless I'm in a really bad reception area moving it doesn't help. Plus I always know where it is.
