The carrier you are hired on by will provide you with a packing list.

The obvious ones are things like a weeks clothing, rain gear, boots, work gloves, flashlight, atlas, pens, pencils, notebook, small toolkit, things like that.

i'm not 100% sure on the trainer bit, I start school this coming monday, and they sent me a very thorough list as to what to bring.

And the companies I have pre-hires from have all sent me info on what to bring

it's mostly the same except for a few differences

US Xpress told me to get a set of certain locks for the trailer, but TMC was specific on what hand tools to bring

They will tell you. If you're going on a trainers truck I might suggest the bare minimum.

Best response so far! Take as little as possible, The trainer has his cubbies and yours stuff with crap he has had for as many years as he has been driving! I don't mean to sound negative but they don't seem to loosen up on any space for your stuff.

Steel toe boots for flatbedders & tankers. Most shippers & receivers require the drivers to wear them.

One of my drivers was a trainer for a large orange company and he said that he had a couple drivers show up for road training with him with a couple suitcases each, it wasn't this was all of their stuff, but rather tried to prepare for weeks on the road.
