Hey everyone. I posted on here a few months ago that I was looking for a few options as a new driver. So I have been working for a food distributor for the last few months, I imagine I don’t have to tell anyone how hard the work is. To me the work is not horrible, I actually picked up very quickly and was on my own after a very short time. I was also recognized by a few people that drove with me how impressed they are with my driving and ability to maneuver in extremely difficult situations. Not trying to toot my own horn but I’m just very comfortable behind the wheel. So I don’t think this is something I want to do for a while, it’s great to get the experience but that’s about it. I think I would like to work with heavy machinery/construction equipment/ heavy hauling/ car hauling. I just want more of a challenge and a bit more excitement. I don’t mind being away for 4-5 days but I would prefer local. Can anyone offer any advice. Money is not a huge factor as my wife does well and I’m not relying only on my income so I don’t need to find the highest paying job out there, I’m really looking for a company I can stick with for a long time. Thank you in advance to everyone for the awesome feedback I have received so far.

Hello. Thanks for all your suggestions, it’s amazing what you do for this forum and it’s members. I did look at the list and I believe many will require at least a year of experience, some will work fine. I know I might be a bit picky here but I really don’t like jumping around which is why I want to find a good company that I would hope to for a long time. I am content doing what I’m doing now, I just don’t see a future in food distribution. The money is crazy good but that’s about it.

Don't think about "experience required" because that's negotiable.

    Thats
That’s good to hear. That allows newer drivers to be a bit more picky. I believe that’s one fault in this industry is that people settle cause they don’t think they will get hired after they complete schooling. I have heard that car hauling is the main goal for many people after gaining experience, is this accurate. If yes for what reasons? Thanks

Car hauling certainly wasn't any more appealing than any other type of trucking coming out of school for me. I was willing to get my feet wet in any sector

Dutch Maid Logistics is a company @Chinatown has mentioned on the forum located in Willard, OH. They are a refrigerated company. Don't know if they have local positions.
