I worked there from 87 to 96. Started in my early 20’s and I had a good time there.

The TM had family members that were professional Firefighters like I was and he knew our work schedule allowed for working side jobs. He needed help routinely 2-3 days a week and sent around a notice to all of my cities firehouses looking for casual drivers. I was already trained to drive fire trucks so it really was an easy transition. At one time there was 5 firefighters working off day jobs at the Louisville CF terminal.

At the time getting in the union was a challenge and you could only work 30 days without a Teamsters card. For some reason one of the crusty old Teamsters didn’t like the idea that we were in 2 unions. He told me he would guarantee I couldn’t be in two unions at one time. I said that I bet you I can. He didn’t know that the Firefighters Vice President of our local was a drinking buddy of the Local Teamsters Union President and also the father of one of one my Fire Dept Co workers. Long story short I and several other Firefighters were in two unions at the same time.

Nice. We had a few line tractors painted with Colorado Rockies baseball team colors with windshield visors appear to be caps. At one time Jerry Mcmorris also was principlr owner of the Rockies before he got tired of us. Supposed to be one big happy family. Even gave us all 2 bricks stamped Coors Field when the ballpark was built for souvineers. Crushed mine in 1999.

These line rigs were Slow Slow Slow but the wheels never stopped turning with teams.

I hooked a few sets for CF teams in tractors very similar. The guy in the bunk could roll over and touch the drivers seat without leaving the bed. I don’t know how they slept in those things.

Yeah June 4 1999, was when Nations Way went out of business. We didn’t have them out my way in Cleveland, Ohio area, but they were one of the largest trucking company bankruptcies in the past 20years.
