Do drivers get paid for miles driven unloaded the same as loaded? I watched a you tube were the guy said he had go drive 200 unpaid miles to get a paying load. He was driving a truck for Averitt. That's not right is it?

If he owns his truck he is probably not paid for deadhead miles. Most company drivers are but not all.
-
or he could have been a company guy searching for an empty.
-
It depends... some do and some dont.. I get paid the same loaded or unloaded, but that is because of the account I am on, we have other drivers who get paid less for unloaded than they do loaded...
It is very important that as a driver who know exactly what you get paid for and how much you get paid for doing it... and not just for a specific company, but for the account or whatever you are on with that company. -
My company pays the same for loaded or m t miles. As it should be.
-
My company pays a flat rate loaded and empty. And we don't do that sliding pay scale crap
-
They only way I'd accept lower pay for empty miles is if I was paid a fair amount for loaded miles.
Same empty pay, fuel surcharge on empty miles, and company paid fuel/road use tax evens out my .95/mi pay. -
Depends on the carrier... my carrier's company guys get paid mty and loaded at the same rate.
IMO, mileage pay sucks. Give me percentage any day, but I'm not a company guy any longer either.Last edited: Apr 8, 2014

If the company told you to drive , loaded or empty , they told you to drive . Should be the same! Have deadheaded 800 miles before, pays the same. I know some companies pay less for empty miles , but why? Running around looking for empty trailers, they tell me where to go get one, it's paid. Not my fault there are no empty trailers here. Next load is 500 miles away , not my fault, pay me! Tell me to drive in circles, how big a circle you want? Pays the same!
Companies that pay less , or none for empty miles are not being fair. You hired me to drive. Used to pickup our new trailers from the factory , bobtail up bring new empty trailer back. Easy miles! They would service it before putting them in service. Good thing ! Have found wheel ends dry before, lights not hooked up, etc . Never left the factory with a faulty trailer , but others had. -
Depends on the company. I worked for a reefer logistics company that paid the same on all miles, empty or loaded and paid on hub miles. Cardinal Logistics bought them out and I think they pay the same.
Worked for a hazmat/tanker company where 50% of the miles were loaded and the other 50% were empty and they all paid the same. Most tanker companies pay that way. That the main reason I made such good money; example, Tennessee to Bakersfield, CA loaded, 1 hour to unload, Bakersfield back to Tennessee empty & and all miles pay the same. Many chemical companies and customers don't want any backhauls on the trailers unless they specifically order the loads themselves.
