I am 53 yrs old and will be ending my current position within the next 4-8 weeks. I have wanted to be a truck driver my whole life, but with other obligations, wife, unexpected family, and then parents' health issues (I am an only child too) life has kind of gotten in the way of my dream. With the phasing out of my current position, I feel it's either now or never to start my pursuit of my becoming a CDL driver and I want to have the best possible chance of making it. I am in good shape, good health, have a supportive lady in my life now, and my parents are no longer living.

I have done research on both of the above companies and think either one would give me a great start at rolling down the road. If anyone has any input you could give me I would be greatly appreciative. I live in the Central Ohio area where there is a lot of freight moving and companies have a lot of terminals. I just want the chance to learn to drive and do it safely and I really enjoy traveling and driving.

    Thanks.

This is just my personal opinion but Central Ref. is a pretty good mid-size company large enough to keep you moving but small enough to still treat you like a human being. They have a school at several of the terminals that they will put you though. Very minimal money upfront. My wife and I drove for Central and were very happy there. Keep in mind everyone has different needs so they may or may not be good for you. Worth checking out though. I would steer clear of the mega-carriers though. You should look into getting your lady friend her license too. My wife and I had a hell of an adventure together out there! Check out the threads on Central. I think the majority of the drivers are pretty happy there. Welcome to the forum and good luck to you!
