@RoadCall Go ahead, sir, fire away with your questions. Let it never be said that I didn't give help when asked. I will gladly answer your questions. But please do me a favor after typing your questions and hitting the send button. Please read the very first post on this thread. You are correct, this is a public thread. It is also a thread started by me for a very specific purpose, and you will see that after you have read that post. You are always welcome to contact me with questions. Ask anyone here...I always help when asked if I am able.

I'm nothing if I'm not "real". Sugar coating only gives false hope.
Short hauls pay more, because they tend to be more time sensitive and/or JIT loads. So the company is banking more, yet paying you the same to do twice the work.
I understand the "it all evens out" CONCEPT...but, it doesn't really; if there is no extra compensation for extra work (ie- Sliding pay scale for short runs, or set bonus per load on short runs).
The "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" very, very, very seldom works and/or benefits the driver in this industry.

Well, sir, I am a company driver. And I'm dispatched by the company to wherever they send me. So, even though I know you're right, this is what it is to be a company driver. And this is a great place to drive for. And yes, it does balance out. The load I delivered this morning was an 800 mile run. The load I am picking up right now is a 1000 mile run. It always works like that for me, and it's been that way since the day I started.

Fair enough, I appreciate that, however your first two threads don't apply to me as I'm not a rookie just starting out and the last thread flamed out.

Anyway, lets start over. Hope your day is going well.

I agree with White Dog, short haul is a lot more work. I prefer long loads any day of the week. That said, this is trucking, it's all part of the job. Short haul is a lot easier when it's drop & hook. Approximately what percentage of Millis loads are drop & hook?

    Thanks

I'd say it's roughly 60-70% drop and hook. That's as OTR, not regional. Not sure if it's any different for them. It probably is a little higher for them because our terminals are all near breweries, and for the most part beer loads aren't live loads. And thank you, hope your day is going well also. You are also correct about that other thread. That one was mine as well. I'm not actively posting there anymore, but it still gets traffic, and I still follow it. As do a few other Millis drivers. But it's cool, might as well just post stuff here, that's how it worked on my other threads anyhow. Because of how this site is set up, I'll never be able to do what I want here so I might as well just field questions on this thread.

Wassup Truckerland. Tonight finds me in Hagerstown, Maryland. Today had a twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. Well, wasn't fully expecting anyway. My final this morning was in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Dangerously close to the DC/Baltimore area. In the back of my mind I was aware that going there would be a possibility, but figured that the chances weren't that high. I was wrong. My next load picked up right in the heart of downtown Baltimore. God I hate that town. I had to go to the harbor. Once you're in the industrial area, it isn't too bad. But getting there sucks. This is a broker load, which normally I hate but this wasn't bad. The broker actually had all of the correct information for the pickup, which doesn't happen often. So far, so good. My biggest concern was getting out of town and getting safely parked before all the spots disappeared. Parking is sparce out this way, to say the least. I'll be able to get a nice, early start tomorrow, my 10 will be over at 03:30. The closest major town I'll have to go around is Pittsburgh, and should easily be able to evade rush hour there. I might get into a little traffic around Youngstown, but that won't be too bad. My goal for tomorrow is to get halfway through Indiana, which is doable even though I'll only have 10 hours available on my 70. The final is in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Nice run, for sure. Just a hair under 1000 miles including my deadhead. I won't have a lot of time left once I get there but I'll be set up very nicely for the weekend. Nothing else to report, really, it was a pretty nondescript day. So, I'm gonna sign off and get my bills scanned in. Until tomorrow, be safe out there. Talk to y'all later :)

You can still "blog" your daily/weekly happenings here AND answer questions. It's not hard for those that are just interested in reading you 'going's on' to scroll past the questions. It's all good.

Greetings from Indiana. One word describes the majority of today's run time. Boring. But...that's a good thing. No issues, no pickups, no deliveries, no fuel stops, no headaches. And no traffic. Pretty much. Except for Mansfield, Ohio. Mansfield is a little flea speck on the map, population less than 50k, none of which can effing drive. It's like the entire town is afraid to be on the road, and they therefore all drive 10 under the speed limit. It's truly ridiculous. But that was it for traffic, very smooth sailing. Ran into some nasty wind when I got near Indiana, but that's pretty much the norm. Pull over, close the tails, and keep on moving. My weather app said the wind gusts were at 38mph, but I'm calling BS on that. I know what 40 feels like, and I guarantee this was stronger. Had to slow it down to 50mph more than a few times. I'm going to get some killer sleep tonight, don't have to leave here for another 11 hours. I definitely could use it. Alrighty, I'm outta here. Gonna wander across the street and grab a sandwich. Be safe out there, and keep the rubber side down. Until tomorrow, peace y'all.

It's pretty windy here in my area of Indiana. I'm super close to getting my gen. Knowledge part of my permit done, guess I was like 1 or 2 over the 10 I'm allowed to miss. I'm gonna try again tomorrow. Have a good one.
