I'm glad it's working for you. My original comment to SJ post was really about people not knowing what it is, what it means to them and seemingly unable to find answers or unwilling to put some time into figuring it out. Not the pros or cons. I knew about per diem pay when I was considering coming to Millis and checked it out before day 1 so I already knew what I was going to do.
Everyone has to understand and figure out what is best for their own individual situation. There are many factors to consider and no one is the same. Based on my independent research it did not make sense for me. I spoke to my accountant and he said do not do it for a variety of reasons.
I personally do not want to accept .05 - .06 less per mile (which is it now?) for per diem pay. At .06 per mile less X the proverbial Millis "average" of 115,000 miles per year that is a $6,900 less income. Not trying to get a big thing on per diem stirred up again just saying since it came up again.

Understood bout accepting less per mile. However, when I switched to straight pay to see how it worked out I was shocked. For a normal even 3000 mile week on straight pay I was bringing home over $125 LESS each week than i wss on per diem. $600 per month just wiped away from my account, but I was making "more cpm"....so now take the new Trump tax bs of us not being able to itemize added to higher gross income and less $ in my pocket per week, and I'll ask you if making more cpm really matters?? To me what matters is $ going into ny account and on straight pay less is going into it each wk, and at tax time, with the new laws, some $ woukd be getting taken out of it instead of putting in it or breaking even. But hey, at least I'm making a higher cpm...
Please dont take this as argumentative cuz its not meant that way but in rereading it can see how it coukd be taken thst way in print.
By the way you started back here yet @JOHNQPUBLIC ?JOHNQPUBLIC Thanks this. -
keen98, that's exactly what I'm curious about. What are taking home at the end of the year after all the BS?

Whelp, chalk this up to the little black cloud that constantly follows me. Got a couple days off coming after I deliver in the morning. My wife's gramma just died so she will most likely not be around. Can't go with her unfortunately because I have a pile of crap to do. Sad to see that lady pass, but she definitely had a full life. She was either 102 or 103, can't remember which. Christ man, imagine what she's seen in her lifetime. Unreal.

Anyone know who's driving 7036?

Holy crap. There's 2 Millis trucks here. This place will fit maybe 15 trucks. What are the odds. Nobody really knows about this place. Kinda crazy.

No we are good. I'm taking it how you mean it.
You're right now that Trump's "great" tax bill BS is in affect and company driver's cannot write anything off, per diem may be an option for me to look at. I've never done it so it is kind of an unknown for me and how it would work out for me. I have heard about some cases where people ending up not paying enough taxes thru the year because the per diem did not take enough out.. Not sure what the scenario was to cause that.
I am suppose to be back very soon. I'll send you a PM. -
