I am going to the Cartersville Ga school for Millis and I was wondering about somethings. I paid the deposit a week ago and school starts April 2 when do i get the information exactly where I am suppose to go and what all I need to bring with me. Do I need to take my truck with me so i will have a way to go? Are there places to eat close by? Do I need to take everything with me to leave there straight to a Truck? Will they send me that information a week before school or should I have already received it? So excited to get in there and get my feet wet!! Just really don't know what to expect. If someone could please help with this information I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks For Your Time And Your Reply

I know nothing of Millis but I can tell you the recruiter should be able to give you all their requirements and usually they make arrangements to get you there unless of course you are close by then drive you will be much happier. As for supplies. Bring a week worth of clothes. Toiletries for your time out, bed linens/pillow and sheets and thats about it. When you get done with school you will have to go with a trainer so keep your supplies to the minimum. Space is very limited in a truck and even more so when there is two of you in it. I would also bring plenty of cash with you for eating and drinks. If you smoke or other tobacco products bring a supply enough to last through school and a little longer if possible. Other then that ask them they may have more specific or even a list to help make sure you don't forget any of the basics.

Thank you so much you have been a big help. Atleast calming my emotions down a little. Just got a little worried. I have 3 small bags packed all thats left to pack is bed stuff. I do know that training in class is supose to be 3 weeks and the rest in a truck. That and I already have my cdls so not sure if that will shortin the time i will be in training or not. Thanks a bunch Kujo

Leigh, Alice will be emailing you a packet of info regarding what's necessary to bring. Gloves/flashlight/motor carriers atlas/things of that nature. There will be transportation provided (a minivan) to transport the students between the school and the motel. There is a continental breakfast at the hotel in the morning, and the van will be available for use at lunchtime and the return trip to the hotel for the evening. There are several truckstops/restaurants nearby. (McDonalds/Taco Bell/Burger King/Popeyes) You can drive your personal vehicle, there will be a place to leave it. The school is situated in one of our terminals, so there is plenty of parking (and big trucks coming and going). During the final week of school you should be assigned a trainer who will be in contact with you towards the end of school. You can leave with your trainer right out of school (if he's able to pick you up that soon) or take a few days or even a week or so to get your home affairs in order. When it's time to leave, Kujo is right, travel light, whatever u can fit on the top bunk with you. Or as I tell my students bring cash and a toothbrush...lol If you have any further questions call Alice or Jazz or Ellan at Black River Falls, they can direct you. There are plenty of Millis drivers and trainers that use this forum and check in regularily, so when you have any questions, shoot em off and someone will reply. They call me Porky, I'm one of their trainers. Good Luck and we look forward to seeing you out here!

Porky, Thank you. Since I already have my CDL's could that possibly shortin my time? I am so excited and I can not wait to get there. I am going to learn so much from this and will help me in the future and the company.

The duration of training (with the trainer) is 35 days-8weeks, depending on the situation. If ur a quick study and ur trainer endorses u, it can be as soon as the 35 days, or as long as 8 weeks. Nothing is ever written in stone (ha ha ha..imagine that..in trucking??)themoonandstars.29609 Thanks this.

I have a Ranmcnally GPS should i bring it to school with me or should i wait to take it?
-
I'd take it with you for when you get on your own but I ,and your trainer should as well, strongly suggest you learn to navigate by atlas and contacting customers/ qualcomm directions first. There is nothing more frustrating than having to give some guy directions to a city because he doesn't have an atlas or just doesn't know how to use it. An atlas and a notepad should be your best friend with a gps running backup to confirm your thoughts and keep you moving.themoonandstars.29609 Thanks this.

i would never carry or have cash on me ,too take with me and same for the trucking school or on the truck, your going with a perfect stranger, get a debit card setup and go that route, most time you can call in too check yor balance and stuff
then once you get your own truck get a cheap wall-mart lap top $234 here too check your balance

Thanks I recently got a laptop from walmart lol and a cheap tablet. and i never carry cash. I have been driving for Duncan's Transport and I am familiar with the east coast yet do not know it all even where I was running it will change everyday. As much as the roads change never reliy on just one thing i have learned that. Been in plenty of situations where atlas was wrong gps was wrong and map quest was wrong. So no one thing of helping you find your way will be perfect and 100 percent accurate. Thanks again!!!Kujo Thanks this.
